As a junior, Covington was named First-Team All-Conference and All-Area. He ran for 525 yards and eight touchdowns on 78 carries. He also compiled 355 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 22 catches. Covington also returned two punts for scores.

Committed to Indiana over Illinois and Kansas State. He cited coaches and atmosphere as the primary reasons for his decison. Wanted to go to home school Wisconsin, but they didn't give him enough attention nor offer.

Covington converted to safety from running back/wide receiver soon after arriving at Indiana. He has yet to crack the 2-deep as a redshirt frosh, although both starters (which includes former Milwaukee Vincent product Nick Polk) are seniors.
