Scout.com: On a Roll

Although Cooper remains very open, he says he now favors Michigan. "Michigan started out slow, but have been on a roll since then," Keanon Copper said. "They are a winning program and have great tradition. They lost two games and didn't let that discourage them. Oregon is a legitimate team so losing to them isn't really that bad. I think they've got a good chance to still win the Big Ten..."

By A. Wallace. Pretty much the same as the update yesterday, favors Michigan slightly over Minnesota, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas. He talks about his KSU visit, the fact that he is now paying attention to Nebraska and Kansas,, and says he may visit Texas Tech.

Cooper and Skyline are having a big season. Didn't like his recent visit to Kansas State. Wisconsin is still calling Keanon, and he really likes the Badgers, but doesn't feel they're reciprocating that interest. Kansas, Minnesota, Michigan, and maybe Texas Tech; seem to be the leaders. The Michigan interest though is conditional on the coach.
The guy loves us even though we've been slacking with his recruitment. He's a stud. We have had more scholarships made available recently. Can we activate his offer please?

From the Minnesota site...talks about his in-home visits with coaches from Wisconsin and Minnesota. Miami has started showing interest. Has visited Minnesota and KSU and metions Michigan, Kansas and Wisconsin as schools that could get his remaining visits.

See, you rant loud enough and maybe they listen. Now not only are they calling him, but conducting in home visits. Of course it's a very clear sign that we'd take his commitment at this point if he's willing. He could be an instant upgrade over Pleasant.

Keanon says Wisconsin leads over Michigan, Texas Tech, Kansas and Minnesota. However, he does say he will postpone his Michigan offical until the Wolverines settle on a coach.

I was starting to come around on Marti, but apparently we should be thanking him for choosing home-state Miami, because it was almost instantly after he decommitted that we heard we were back in the picture for Cooper, and now we are once again his leader. Marti's decommit seemed to have opened up a scholly for a non-DL player. This kid is a player. Very impressive offer list.
Let's keep it that way, okay BB/Cooks? No dropping back again.
P.S. No bitter feelings on Marti. I wish him the best...

Actually our interest was renewed in Cooper a while before the Marti de-commit. I think Cromartie's and Johnson's continuing indecision played a bigger factor. And Landingham transferring might be the primary reason we've moved into the lead. I'm sure coach B called him this weekend and told him a potential future starting safety in Landingham just vacated, thus there's an extra spot open unlike previously believed.

No doubt, this would make the class of 2008 a special one. Cooper is listed as high as the 62st player in the country (ESPN). With Carter ballhawking and Cooper tackling, UW would finally be back to having a stud safety tandem like we are used to seeing.

"(The University of Minnesota) didn't really compare," UW Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff said. "I loved the atmosphere here. It was pretty easy to cross (Minnesota) off the list. I wanted to play at the highest level possible but I also wanted to have that college atmosphere."

Marti switched on November 24th. Staff might have known it was coming a couple days ahead of time. What news did we have before that that we were back recruiting Cooper again? Because I must have missed it. The article posted here dated the 21st says that he felt we were not reciprocating interest.

We called as that interview was being conducted on the 21st.
There didn't have to be a singular reported event which triggered this re-interest in Cooper. There were update about Cromartie from mid to late October where he was considering other schools. That may have continued, like McCray for example at Miami, and eventually the staff figured they had to cover their bases. The staff said they already had their allotted 2 safeties in the bank, thus they'd stopped recruiting Cooper. Unless one of those players was Marti, I don't understand the logical change of thinking. I think Cromartie was more apt to be a safety than Marti.

I didn't say that there had to be a singular event, and the aptitude of Cromartie to be a safety more than Marti has nothing to do with it. I said that they might have "reactivated" Cooper's scholly when one became available because of the Marti decommit, with the assumption that the rest are going to the DL (which they have thus far). A "non DL" scholly might have opened up, and they might have extended it to him. They probably kept in contact with him throughout, thus why Cooper apparently said that Cooks had still been calling but had not been "reciprocating interest," with the intent of going harder after him should someone like Marti or Cromartie decommit. Well, Marti decommitted, and by all accounts I've read, Cooper said that we started going harder after him again at that point.
To me it is quite clearly a simple game of scholarships. We don't have many left, and the staff put a clear focus on the DL (Kelley, Moore, Mains committed, still after Parrish and Ferras). A non-DL decommitted and they have started to reciprocate interest on another non-DL.

Skyline S Keanon Cooper is beginning to consider official visits after last week's playoff loss to Plano. Cooper (6-0, 190), No. 13 on the area list, probably will make visits to Michigan, Texas Tech and Wisconsin. He has offers from those schools as well as Cal, Kansas State, Mississippi, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Purdue.
Cooper has already visited Kansas State and Minnesota. Two of his Skyline teammates, ATH Troy Stoudermire and LB Spencer Reeves , have already committed to Minnesota.

From the Wisconsin site...reaffirms Wisconsin is one of his top choices, along with Michigan, Minnesota, Texas Tech and Kansas. Will take all his visits (already has made one to Minnesota).

Cooper was named to the Under Armour All American Bowl (correction) on ABC per Sid Hartman of Minneapolis Star Tribune
Also was named First Team All State in Texas per the Dallas Star-Telegram. Cooper posted a gaudy stat line of: 141 tackles, 3 blocked punts, 3 INTs, 4 FFs, 2 FR.
What a friggin coup snagging this kid would be.
