Prediction in week five comes true - Ohio High School Football - Blitz on Vindy.com - Youngstown, Warren, Mahoning Valley
11/30
Quote:
(in the state championship) Dale Peterman, a senior cornerback for the Irish, picked off two passes and returned one 44 yards for a score......
“It feels so good, I’m on cloud nine right now,” Peterman said. “It was our goal this year to come in here and deliver a shutout.”.......
Peterman said this victory was especially meaningful to the seniors, who had to taste defeat in last year’s title game.
“Last year when we lost the championship game, there was a lot of motivation to come back,” Peterman said. “And we came back and did it.”
The Irish were able to achieve three team goals this season. They had an undefeated season (15-0), won the state championship, and defeated arch-rival Cardinal Mooney earlier this season.

Peterman was given the #8 top performance from the Ohio state championships last weekend. He sealed the game with a interception which he returned for a 44 yards TD.

I just got the chance to watch Peterman's ScoutingOhio video. All I can say is I hope he gets his grades figured out b/c he would be a really big asset to any football team. I would love to have him at Wisconsin. He is a pretty damn good WR too.....it's unfortunatel that he isn't a little taller.

I agree. He's a very talented player. The traits that stand out to me are desire and ball skills. He's kind of a taller version of Marcus Trice. To wit, I don't necessarily agree that height is an issue, although it's not ideal. He clearly needs to bulk up though. However, not as much as most would because desire can compensate some. I mean Al Harris is pretty bony, but nobody has ever accused him of not being physical enough.

Peterman's stock is rising after his impressive season and qualifying score on his ACT. The only thing preventing official offers from schools like Michigan and Wisconsin is news that his GPA qualifies. He has scheduled officials to Wisconsin and South Carolina, but he'd seriously consider canceling and committing to Michigan if they deliver on their promise.

I dont think UW is interested Dale anymore with Thomas on board and with the possibility of have McDougald on board too. I would imagine that the staff sees Dale and Darious as similar talents(with Thomas being taller) and less of a chance academically.

Listen to wadc, he's a high school coach in Ohio. " Talent isn't the issue...the question is can he get it done in the classroom...". He's discernibly more talented a semi Texas sleeper like Thomas. I mean Michigan is serious about offering, and that's far better than any that Thomas received.
Also, I would figure the plan was always to add him as a supplement to another corner, because by himself he wouldn't be reliable enough given the grade issues.
McDougald was primarily a safety at Dublin Scioto. I like he has the capability to cover wideouts, but let's not take so many players out of their comfort zone once they arrive in Madison.

Oh I know that he is talented, but being that he had a conditional offer I imagine that it was an him or Thomas type of thing. They were probably only going to take on CB this year anyway with the derth of young, yet unproven talent on the team right now. The soph or younger QBs at the begining of next year will be Fenelus, Smith, Goins, Henry, Thomas and possibly Cromartie depending on if he plays S or not. So that is 6 guys, not including Brinkley.
Another reason I say that is due to the surprising change of heart that he had soon after Thomas committed.

Smith was pretty thick when I observed him this season.....entering Royston territory subsequent to moving him to safety.
But yeah, I see your point about the depth. You forgot Merrill also....a player who showed a lot of promise in terms of blanket coverage ability during the spring game, he just needs to hone ball skills a little. That's one of the least important attributes for a corner to possess though, just look at Ikegwuonu. 2006 was the best season I've ever seen from a Badger CB, yet he was mostly a face guarder on jump balls and hypothetically would only secure about half the balls thrown directly at him in a drill.
I think the reason for the change of heart from Peterman was the news a Michigan offer would be imminent.

Merrill is a guy I cant wait to see get a chance he is maybe the best athlete on the team very fast, fluid hips, great change of direction and a very good vertical, I wouldn't be surprised to see AH and Merrill get the starting nods.

I am still highly skeptical that he actually has a firm offer from UW. Rememeber he was basically a Mich. commit but that has seemed to have fizzled out. If he can get his academics in order and UW does offer he will go to UW.

I think everybody is allowed a non Rhodes scholar or two as long as it's not the norm and he has shown improvement later in his high school career. But either we wouldn't lower our standards for him specifically, or he simply couldn't get past the clearinghouse.
