Dortch sets tone in Wayne Valley win

When Matt Dortch breaks free and gets those speedy legs going, it's six points in the bank for Wayne Valley.
Passaic Tech caught wind of that right away Saturday. Dortch caught the opening kickoff inside his own 10-yard line, broke a couple tackles, and ran down the open space until there was nothing left but end zone

By M. Alkire. Dortch still only has an offer from Wisconsin (where he is being recruited as a RB/WR combo) and is hearing from Syracuse, Cincinnati, Boston College, Iowa, and NC State. He plans to take officials after his season.

But the real jolt came in February when Wisconsin offered Dortch a scholarship.
"That was amazing," Dortch said with a smile. "The first thing I did was call my dad. He didn't believe me. He thought I was joking around.".............
It sounds like he would commit to the Badgers, however, he probably has an offer that's no longer outstanding or conditional. Offers after our early massive flurry are more indicative of current interest it would seem.

By the way.....very cool drawing of Dortch attached to the article.

Early start to award season

HERALD NEWS

Quote:
Offensive player of the year
Matt Dortch, Wayne Valley. What the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Dortch has done so far this season is nothing short of amazing. The Valley tailback leads the state in scoring with 126 points, 12 more than A.J. Scopppa of New Milford, according to MaxPreps.com. In leading the Herald News No. 3 Indians to a 7-0 record, he has scored at least two touchdowns in every game, piling up four against both Pequannock and Passaic Tech. Against Passaic Valley, Dortch rushed 22 times for 304 yards, while adding 115 yards receiving. He holds scholarship offers from Wisconsin and Temple, and more could be on the way.
"He's the best player in the county, as far as I saw," Tech coach John Iurato said. "I haven't seen any anybody better."

From the Iowa site...likely to set-up an official to Iowa soon and also likely Syracuse (neither have offered). Will likely also visit Wisconsin and Cincinnati (both offered).

ZAGSBLOG: Dortch to Central Connecticut

Quote:
Dortch was initially given a written scholarship offer from Wisconsin last spring after the Elite College Combine, but Wayne Valley coach Brian O’Connor said he was disappointed that Wisconsin coaches never called him to follow up and gauge Dortch’s interest.

“They get a kid’s hopes up,” O’Connor said. “I would think a school would get back to us and say, ‘Brian, what’s he thinking?’ ” Iowa also expressed interest, but in the end, not a single Division I-A school offered a scholarship.
