Seems really luke warm about Kansas State as well as the rest. He might be looking for different offers and his top 3 is only tentative.

Smith had a monster game in week 1 for Raytown in Missouri for all 3 phases of the game.

On offense as a TE he recorded 5 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.

On defense at DE he recorded 14 tackles.

On special teams he had a blocked punt.

His Time to Grab the Spotlight

When Aldon Smith jogs onto the football turf, binoculars sharpen into focus and the brain starts spitting out adjectives to describe what you’re seeing.
Smith, the sixth-ranked Missouri prospect on Rivals.com, stands 6 feet 5 and makes his Raytown teammates look like his little brothers.

Aldon basically favors the 4 schools which have offered him: Nebraska, K-State, Kansas, and Missouri.

Quote:
ALDON SMITH, DE/TE, 6-5, 235, 4.6, RAYTOWN, MISSOURI

Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas State and Kansas have offered Aldon scholarships. Aldon said most schools are recruiting him on both sides of the ball, and has a chance to play early.

Aldon mentioned he has no favorites and will take all five visits. Iowa State indicated that they are likely to offer him a visit.

Aldon added that he went to the Missouri and Illinois State game and will travel to Columbia this weekend to see the Nebraska game.

“Missouri has a cool coaching staff and I like it there a lot.” said Aldon, “I was there (Columbia) last summer and really liked the environment. Missouri has great fan support and they are updating the athletic facilities.”

“I went to Nebraska last summer and liked it there.” he said, “They have nice facilities too. Nebraska wants me at tight end mostly. Coach Cosgrove and Rudolph are good people. Distance is not a factor, Lincoln is not that far away.”

Aldon said he made a trip to Kansas State over the summer and liked everything. He enjoyed the Kansas State coaches and the facilities are very good.

www.kansascity.com | 10/07/2007 | Captain’s pep talk sparked Missouri in win over Nebraska

Quote:
TIGERS LAND RECRUIT: Missouri's blowout of Nebraska drew an oral commitment from the No. 6-rated high school player in Missouri.

Aldon Smith, 6-5, 235-pound defensive end from Raytown told Powermizzou.com early Sunday morning that he would attend MU shortly after the Tigers’ victory on Saturday night.

“It just felt like everything was right,” Smith said.

Missouri seems like a program on the rise right now (bad for Wisconsin recruiting), so it might not have mattered anyways to an in state recruit, but I would have liked to see his reaction to a Wisconsin offer. Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity. IMHO, he's a much more impressive prospect on film and elsewhere, than Badger DE commit Zach Davison.

I thought it might be of interest to some to update the status of past prospects whose recruitment we followed closely on this website.....

First, Aldon Smith has elevated himself to second team defensive end at Missouri, and PowerMizzou.com opines he's good enough to start and will make a major contribution. As I said at the time, it was questionable of the staff not to offer if they had evaluated him.
