Recruiting buzz: Allen WR mulling offers | Denton Record-Chronicle | News for Denton County, Texas | Sports: Colleges: Recruiting
Quote:
Allen receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu didn't commit to Texas A&M after the Aggies' Junior Day on Saturday.
But it's only a matter of months before Nwachukwu (nu-WATCH-u-kwu) makes it two consecutive years for an Allen receiver to commit early to a Bowl Subdivision school.
Nwachukwu (6-1, 180) has offers from Texas A&M, Kansas, Vanderbilt, TCU and Washington State. He lists A&M, Southern Cal, Oklahoma and Florida among his favorites. He'd like to decide by the end of spring.
Nwachukwu has had two solid seasons playing opposite 2008 Texas signee Dan Buckner, who caught 17 touchdown passes last season.
Nwuchukwu, No. 9 on SportsDay's 2009 Area Top 50, still made enough plays to wow recruiters. Six of the 22 catches he had last season year went for touchdowns.

Uzoma has offers from Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Washington State, Missouri, Oklahoma and others.
“I like Nebraska I recently talked to Coach John Papuchis he sounded pretty good.” said Nwachukwa, “JP said I could play early and they wanted to upgrade their receiving corps and they needed a player like me. JP said it’s all about the players (At Nebraska) not just winning just a positive atmosphere.”
“I’m not sure if I will visit them (Nebraska) this summer. I’m going to try to visit schools that offered me.” he said
“I talked to Coach Ianello (Notre Dame) he was over here last spring and Coach Weis. He’s (Weis) like a celebrity. Notre Dame coaches said I could play early they would like to fit me in the slot.” said Nwachukwa, “
“I’m going to visit Notre Dame June 17 with my brother and mom.”
“I like Missouri a whole lot.” he said, “I like what they do on offense it’s like what we do here (Allen). Coach Jackson is a really nice guy. Missouri coaches said I can play early. They expect Maclin to go pro early. I will probably visit them this summer.”
“I liked Texas A&M Junior Day’s it was like one big real family. Coach Randy Jordan is an exciting guy, very funny and always laughing. A&M coaches said I will definitely play early use me in the slot, run reverses and use me as a deep threat.” said Nwachukwa
“When I was the A&M spring game it was a whole lot of fun.” he said, “The fans were calling out my name. I didn’t see too much passing, it was pretty basic.”
“Arkansas offense is the spread like Nebraska. They like to spread the field. Arkansas coaches said I could play early there too.”
“I went to a Oklahoma scrimmage and I got to talk to Coach Stoops I like him a lot.” said Nwachukwa, “Oklahoma’s offense is a lot like ours at Allen. Oklahoma coaches said they are losing their top 3 wide receivers and I could come in and play early. Plus their quarterback Sam Bradford will be back.”
“I don’t know much about Kansas but I’ll try to make it up there this summer.” he said, “Kansas did some great things last year.”
“I have narrowed my list down to Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas and Arkansas.”
“I would like to make it to some schools this summer and make a decision before schools starts. I would like to stay close to home where I can come home on week-ends. If I leave the area it would have to be pretty good. I want to go to school where I feel the most comfortable.” said Nwachukwa.

From the Michigan site. Uzoma says that Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Nebraska are recruiting him the hardest. He isn't sure if he has a Michigan offer or not, but says he is interested in them. Playing time and the staff are important factors.

I don’t consider myself a jealous person. If I want to be honest with you all I have to admit that my first thought when watching the film of Allen High School was “I am so jealous.” It would have been very, very nice to have had that kind of receiving corp when I was a high school quarterback.

"A&M is close to home (three hours away), which helps," Uzoma Nwachukwu said. "They have an all-star coaching staff and they are all from the NFL. They have great experience and know what they are talking about." Nwachuwku is especially impressed with new Aggies coach Mike Sherman. "I grew up in Wisconsin and my favorite team was the Packers, so I like that coach Sherman is at A&M now..."

He grew up in Wisconsin and didn't become a fan of the Badgers, but grew an appreciation for Mike Sherman?
What was it that he liked about him in particular?
- Not going for it on 4th and 1 to ice the divisional playoffs, when your running game is completely dominant, you're in no man's land, your punter stinks at downing the ball inside the 20, and you can't stop the opposing team?
- Or maybe it was inexplicably keeping all timeouts in his pocket while the team marches for the winning score. I suppose there's a greater chance fumbling when taking a knee then there is of being scored upon at the 5 by a team who is marching down the field.
- Then there was his brilliant stint at general manager where he traded up for a punter in the third round, extracted about 4 starters from 5 drafts, tried to fill holes with studs such as Armengis Spearman (unsuccessfully), Mark Roman, etc. Just overall depleted the talent of the team. But of course scouting won't apply to the success of a college team.
I can see why this kid became such a big Mike Sherman fan, however doesn't esteem coaches like Barry Alvarez and Bret Bielema. Perception is reality.
