Stevens: Trouble seems to follow FSW coach
By Chris Stevens, sports editor
10/07/2007
There are some suspicions about the legalities of Ingram's transfer to Flint Southwestern. I wonder if his season would be in trouble as a result.

'Southwestern Place' -- Episode 8
Dan Nilsen | The Flint Journal

For once, Mark Ingram wasn't the central figure, being held to his lowest rushing total of the year (75 yards on 25 carries). For the record, he has 1,580 yards on the year (171 carries) with at least one game left. Also for the record, his fumble that nearly cost SWA the game was his first lost fumble of the season.

Midland Daily News - Missed opportunities: FSW edges Chemics
Quote:

Midland High's Joel Parsons, middle, dives towards Flint Southwestern Academy's Mark Ingram as he is surrounded by Midland defenders during the first half of Friday night's game at Midland Stadium.

Quote:
Midland High did almost everything right against Flint Southwestern on Friday. Unfortunately for the 10th-ranked Chemics, "almost" wasn't good enough to overcome a handful of crucial mistakes down the stretch.
The Knights rode two long second-half drives and a pair of big defensive stops to a 20-19 upset of the Chemics at Midland Stadium -- putting a damper on homecoming and denying Midland its shot at clinching at least a share of the Saginaw Valley League title.
The loss also wasted a gritty effort by Midland's defense, which held the Valley's leading rusher, Mark Ingram, to 76 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.

Let the Trips Begin

National Recruiting Editor

Mark Ingram, whose season is now over, doesn't have any official visits scheduled yet, but plans to set some soon. "I'm going to start setting them up now," Ingram said. "I didn't want to take any during the season. I'd like to take as many visits as I can. I want to be sure I'm comfortable wherever I go. I just want to see how I feel at each school..."
Mark Ingram, the 5-foot-10, 202-pound three-star running back from Southwestern Academy in Flint, Mich., finished his senior season with 1700 yards rushing and 24 touchdowns. Defensively, he had 33 tackles and two interceptions. Southwestern Academy didn't make the playoffs after finishing the season with a 4-5 record. They would have been 7-2, however they had to forfeit three games due to an ineligible player. Ingram has approximately 19 scholarship offers and now favors Michigan State over Iowa, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Washington, and South Florida.................

Ingram was scheduled to be in Madison when the Badgers played Michigan. It was the first of his official visits. He favors: Michigan State, Iowa, and MSU; but is taking his time.

Very in depth article. Ingram talked about how he was extremely impressed with his visit to Madison. Especially liked the academics at the school. Appreciated the atmosphere of the game and stadium. Was told he might get playing time as a freshman. He's considering a return trip for a basketball game.
Big Ten schools, i.e.: UW, Illinois, MSU, and Iowa; are the most entrenched in his recruitment.

Nice to see that we are still recruiting elite talents even after we were supposedly done recruiting running backs. Getting Ingram would be a huge prize, as he seems to be on the can't miss level.

"(The University of Minnesota) didn't really compare," UW Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff said. "I loved the atmosphere here. It was pretty easy to cross (Minnesota) off the list. I wanted to play at the highest level possible but I also wanted to have that college atmosphere."

Three named to Div. 1-2 All-State football team
GENESEE COUNTY
THE FLINT JOURNAL FIRST EDITION
Saturday, November 24, 2007
By Dan Nilsen
Quote:
How would Southwestern Academy running back Mark Ingram have fared against Davison defensive tackle Josh Denkins and the rest of the Cardinals' defense this football season?
It would have been interesting to see those teams clash in the Division 2 state playoffs, pitting SWA's unstoppable back against Davison's immovable defense.
As it is, area fans will have to settle for recognition of both Ingram and Denkins on The Associated Press Division 1-2 All-State team, as selected by a 10-member panel of media from around the state.
Ingram set a city record with 1,699 rushing yards on 195 carries, breaking the mark of 1,445 by Northern's Adrian Boyd in 1998. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound senior averaged 8.7 yards a carry, 188.8 a game and scored 24 touchdowns, including one on a kick return.
He had highs of 377 yards at Bay City Western and 319 against Midland Dow and was voted Most Valuable Player in the Saginaw Valley Conference.
"An extraordinary talent," said SWA coach Gary Lee. "Tremendous explosion. If he sees a hole, he kicks it in and he goes."
Ingram played his first three years at Grand Blanc and finished his career with 4,260 yards on 574 carries. He is the first Southwestern player to earn AP All-State since senior receiver Joey Lajewski in 1987.
