From the Kentucky site...lots of love for Kentucky...visited twice recently and rumors have been swirling about a possible commitment. Has not heard from Wisconsin and isn't sure if it is because his cell phone broke and they just haven't been able to contact him.

Could be a case of vanishing schollies and a nearly identical player already committed (TJ Williams)

Yeah, that seems awfully optimistic on his part. The Badgers are proving right now at the college level that you need to be more than an athlete (Shane Carter) to be an asset as a free safety. We might try to finally focus narrowly on true free safeties to fill our crater sized hole at that position.

Brandon Smith would more than cover that crater... He seems to be a natural ballhawk

By C. Pool at the Wisconsin site. Fields says that Wisconsin and Kentucky lead, but that Purdue, Cincinnati, and Duke are still very much in the picture. He says he will narrow things down after his official visits.

Jody Demling - Recruiting
Quote:
I've had a handful of emails and calls today asking if Frankfort athlete E.J. Fields had committed to play football at the University of Kentucky.
I just talked with Fields and the answer is no.
Fields said he's getting closer to a decision but with his school on fall break he's ready to make visits to Wisconsin and Purdue this week. He was at UK's game against Florida Atlantic on Saturday and said he likes "UK and Wisconsin the most."
"I'm going to make some visits while I'm on fall break," Fields said. "Wisconsin and Purdue and I might plan a few more. And then I might be ready to make a decision."
Fields said he's always liked UK and noted the recent success is great to see but not a huge factor in what decision he'll make.
"What they are doing right now is really good," he said. "A lot of people didn't expect them to win all of these games. I still like them as much as I did before."
Cincinnati, Duke, North Carolina State and Wake Forest are among the other schools that have offered Fields, who has nearly 500 yards rushing in five games. The Panthers are 4-1 heading into Friday's game against Trimble County.

Fields committed to Kentucky.
Not a big disappointment for me because at this juncture we need less athletes and more recruits with clearly defined positions.

Total agreement. We have athletes, but need more gritty tough it out kind of guys. As Barry would say, the heart comes from Wisconsin, and I think we need a little more of that heart
