Back on topic, the 2010 class is a classic reason why redshirting a project player can hurt you. Blue and Anderson would be a good class, but with a very good year for in-state talent, it is disappointing to see a Gavinski keep you from making runs at some of the other guys out there. I've never really heard of it in basketball, but I know there's always a guy or two in football who forgo their 5th year of eligibility if they don't figure to contribute much. Is there any chance JP considers this if he gets passed up by the guys we have coming in this year?

I understand the reasoning for your comparison, but I don't think they have similar skill sets. I think of Rush as a passive player, more than he's unselfish. He's also more of a true perimeter player, whereas Wilson is a hybrid. I'd liken him more to a Jeff Green/Luol Deng.
There are some highlights/game footage available of Jamil Wilson in his thread if you haven't seen them.
(BTW, I'm probably going to split these last few posts and transfer them to either the Jamil Wilson or General Recruiting talk thread, because we're getting away from the subject of Vander Blue)

Kentucky just scored a commit from an 8th grader.
I mean what's next, getting commitments from fetuses in the womb? Let's check the ultrasound. That's a pretty good sized fetus. I bet he'll be a beast in the post. Kick once if you want to be a Wildcat, son.

Hasn't USC recently gotten a few recruits that hadn't yet gotten to high school? And when did Iowa's star last year commit? He might have as a freshman. Personally I don't think an official commitment should be given (or received) until after a player's sophomore year.

I think the NCAA instituting a rule of that nature would be best for both parties involved.
A player could look like a monster against middle schoolers, but look out-matched once they reach high school already. You have no idea what their peak height will be. There's so much variability involved. Yet teams feel pressured to offer because they want to get their foot in the door with the next potential big thing, otherwise another program could steal their opportunity. Then once a player commits, you're not going to reneg once he starts sucking.
From the player's perspective, you're not really in position to make such an enormous decision at their stage of mental development. Players decommit all the times these days, but some still feel deterred from doing so because they don't want to disappoint a passionate fan base of yahoos.
Let kids be kids and learn from their smaller mistakes first.

I think its a great idea from the players perspective. The school is the one at stake

F.Y.G.I., Hoopscoop has their player rankings up through the class of 2013 (don't ask me how they discover and rate these kids at this point).
Anyways, in state players who are included are as followed......
2012:
#57, F Jean Pierre Tokoto, 6'4", Menomonie Falls
#117, C Julius Wanyoike, 6'4", Milwaukee
#191, F Arroyo Edwards, 6'4", Milwaukee
2013:
#29, G Jarvis Garrett, 5', Milwaukee
#31, G Duane Wilson, 5'7", Milwaukee
#87, F Deonte Burton, 5'10", Milwaukee
#124, F Jordan Bradley, 6', Milwaukee
Take it for what it's worth. I don't follow Hoopscoop enough to know their efficacy.

write up on 2010 Wisconsin players from NY2LA
NY2LA Sports
Quote:
6'5" F Flavien Davis - Wisconsin Lutheran High School
Headed into last year as one of the elite 2010 prospects in the Midwest but a subpar performance this past spring/summer has cooled him a bit for now. In the end though it may end up being the best thing that happened to Davis as he is already in much better shape this fall (202 lbs.) and is really stroking the perimeter jumper well, which was something he definitely needed to work on. With new Head Coach Ryan Walz taking over this year, he'll need Davis to put down a strong year for Wisconsin Lutheran to have a successful season. Flavien looks headed in that direction and despite a step back last year, expect his stock to start to blossom again this year as he re-establishes himself as one of the elite prospects in the Midwest.

Quote:
6'9" F Kyle Kelm - Randolph
May very well be the top available prospect in the 2010 class in Wisconsin. A host of Division 1 schools already have offers on the table and that should increase over the next 12 months as Kelm is a skilled face up type forward with some nice instincts, solid physical tools, and the ability to step away from the basket and stroke the perimeter jumper. Reminds me a bit of 09' William Chrisman (Missouri) Jon Ekey who committed to Illinois State except he's taller, longer, and has more ability in the paint. Kelm is still raw with tons of room to grow and develop both physically and skill wise. If he puts in the work on those areas over the next 12 months, you can expect his stock to really take off both regionally and nationally.

says three Illinois Wolves visited yesterday, but mentions 4 players...
Nanna Egwu( visited)-6'9 sophomore family is originally from Nigeria....interest from wisconsin, says he averaged 7 blocks per game in the 16-17 age bracket. Obviously very raw very very athletic, and is still growing.
Chasson Randle( Visited)6'1 Sophomore coach considers him one of the top players in his year.
Will Sulivan( Visited)6'2 sophomore says he is a hard nosed and athletic combo guard...has great range....can score of the dribble.
Diamond Taylor( UW verbal) says he is very versatile...able to score from all over...is a very hard worker and very athletic.
All I can say is I hope Diamond has a good relationship with these players, this Illinois Wolves AAU team could be very important pipeline in the future.
