Many have speculated that a 3rd scholarship will open up for 2009; however, right now I would have to say that a 3rd scholarship for 2010 is most likely with Barnes being our target. UWOle recently posted the following information from an Iowa board:
"RECRUITING TRAIL
Greg McDermott didn't have far to travel for a recruiting stop Wednesday. McDermott was one of five Division I coaches at Ames High for an open gym featuring Little Cyclone sophomore Harrison Barnes.
USC coach Tim Floyd, formerly the coach at ISU, also was in attendance, as were assistant coaches from DePaul, Iowa and Wisconsin. Barnes looked good, having no trouble dunking and driving in the off-season pickup game.
Barnes reportedly already has received scholarship offers from ISU, Iowa, Indiana State and Minnesota."
In other words, we were just down visiting Barnes this past weekend. As speculated, it was likely Coach Close who made the visit as this is his recruiting coach.

Also posted by a publisher at Badger Nation (Ben Worgull) was that Barnes' mother says they expect a scholarship offer from UW by the end of the week.
It would seem that an extra scholarship for 2010 is indeed expected. There are many possibilities on how this would happen as we've already discussed.
Barnes may be a reach.....however, he would be a great get for UW.

Rivals just did an article with Barnes. See the link below if you have a subscription.

Edited by Bernini: Wisconsin is still very interested in Barnes to the point of prodding him to get on campus. He's developing a strong relationship with the Badgers' coaching staff. Academics are very important to Barnes and that's a selling point of the staff.
I have no inside information on this subject, but I would guess when all is said an done that we add one more kid to 2010.

All that I know is this....Harrison is a great kid, and a great player. I hope he will be a Cyclone, but wherever he go, he will do really well. He has been raised right, and is a good kid on top of being a good player.

Harrison reportedly put together a strong performance at the Sabes Invitational on Saturday, after having a scheduling conflict on Friday because it's track season. He played a very disciplined, versatile game. Smooth handle and outside shot. From reading between the lines of what insiders are saying, Wisconsin having a scholarship open for 2010 is not just wishful thinking, unlike '09.

Wow, that's bad news. :-( I would hate for Wisconsin to get Harrison.
That article also said Harrison dunked like 5 times, which is pretty impressive. He also has a sweet finger roll move, which he can use to split defenders. His handle has really improved this year, and so has his outside shot.

The schools that are recruiting Barnes the hardest are Iowa, Iowa State, Texas, Kentucky and USC. He plans to visit UK in June. Compares his game to Lebron James.

Confirmation of the Indiana offer. Was also offered by TCU. Texas, Kentucky, Florida, Maryland, Illinois, DePaul, and Oklahoma are the schools most interested in him who haven't offered. So the Badgers aren't even one of the top 11 most interested schools anymore.

I really like Barnes a lot, but with all the talent in WI in 2010 its hard to get too upset by this. Maybe Flavian is next in line..
