'08 IA PF L.A. Pomlee (ISU Commit)
Anyone know what the story is on LA Pomlee? Rivals as it listed that Wisconsin still has an outstanding offer. Is there a chance that he could be joining the 2008 class still?
Anyone got any info?

Different people will say different things, but I have heard from people close to the situation that Jarmusz may transfer, opening up a scholarship for next year. The theory makes sense, considering he hasn't played but didn't redshirt (saving it for the transfer year). If he would transfer after this season, the offer may be conditional to Pomlee.
This is definitely not factual and should be taken fwiw, but it does make some logical sense.

Not trying to slight Jarmusz, but I wouldn't mind seeing this situation play out. From what I have read, Pomlee is very athletic. Also, he may be a good find as the main reason for him not seeing a lot of big name offers is due to health issues (blood clots). Perhaps he will be a walk-on and this is why there hasn't been much buzz about his offer. He has not kept it quiet that he would like to go to Wisconsin though, with a quote about Wisco being his favorite in almost every article I can track down. However, I would hope we are his favorite given the other offers that are listed.
Also, another question. If Jarmusz was to transfer and we kept our current '08 class at 4 guys, would this give us 4 possible schollies for '09? Seems like we could use 4 as the "Bruiser" looks like he's coming to Madison in '09.

If Tim were to transfer that would give us an extra schollie for 08, 09, and '10, which would most likely mean that a 08 recruit would take it. We could "bank" the schollie for 09 though by giving it to a walk on for one season, ala Bronson, in 2008. Once again, all this should be taken with a grain of salt and is just one possible idea as to why we are still recruiting for 2008.

I know people who have seen both Pomlee and Nunn in person and weren't impressed. Nunn thrived off cherry picking and raw athleticism that wouldn't project and I'm not sure what the complaint about Pomlee was. Also, one or both were rumoured to be recruited by Bo as a favor to generate more interest elsewhere.
Jarmusz transferring would seem a rash decision on his part. His shooting could certainly be an asset next season or the season following. Gullickson's drinking problems could also be the cause of a scholarship being freed. I'd think banking would be the most prudent option at this late stage. Our options for '09 appear to be plentiful.

I too definitely see a role for Dr J in the future as well, although I am not so sure if it would be a starting one. From what I heard, take it fwiw, he really wanted to see if he belonged at Wisconsin, and therefore took the offer. If after a year he did not feel as though he would get much playing time in the future, he would likely transfer to UWGB.
Just passing along what I have gathered, and it is far from scientific fact.

I have definitely read that the interest in Nunn was largely a favor. I haven't heard this about Pomlee, but it wouldn't be surprising. Sounds like we are best not adding to our class anyway given the amount of talent in '09. Wonder what Bo will do...?

Pomlee's Davenport Central team lost in the 4A Iowa State finals. He garnered 4A 1st team all state honors, averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Mark Miller is reporting that if Pomlee improves his academic standing he'll be a Badger.
I don't know if it's an official commitment or not. Wisconsin might continue to look at other players until he can prove he'll qualify.

Sounds like more of the same. He still has work to qualify, and if he does, he still does not have an offer. According to Miller, who somewhat backed off his statement, Pomlee will get offered if he qualifies though. He also stated that a lot can change before then.

Hoopmasters.com is reporting that Pomlee has committed to Iowa State. I don't have a membership, but here's the front page, which has a link to the article.
Over on Scout's boards UWOle is also saying that the word on the Marquette boards is that Christopherson is transferring to ISU, and that Jamie Vanderbeeken (sp?), a JUCO big, has committed there as well. Pretty big day for the Cyclones.

I'm looking forward to seeing the all-Wisconsin backcourt at Iowa State in the near future. I have another college team to follow now, at least on a fringe level.
One of their new recruiting strategies appears to be to scavenge for leftovers in our state. Intelligent, considering Iowa doesn't generate an immense amount of prospects themselves, they play second fiddle to another university in their state, and both our major programs are very successful on home grown talent (Wisconsin more so than MU). The market isn't overly competitive with out of state programs camping in traditional states like Illinois, Ohio, etc; either.
In addition to Christopherson and Garrett, ISU has offered Kyle Kelm and reportedly Maymon before his grades looked terminal.
