Bruesewitz' pristene defensive reputation will be at stake when he'll match up against Jeronne Maymon and Vander Blue of Madison Memorial in the Minnesota Timberwolves Shootout next winter.

Rivals $
5/13
by Ryan James of GopherSportsIllustrated
Bruiser raised his prospect stock, this spring, more than all but two Minnesota high school players. He was the only "notable" name on the list.
He flashed more quickness, leaping ability, and mid range shooting ability; than recruiting services previously believed he possessed.

Some clips of Bruiser at the AMC. Not a lot of film, but he is much quicker than I imagined him to be.

Bruiser rated the third best MN prospect for 2009, ahead of more touted guys like Sam Dower and Trent Lockett
After a somewhat luke warm reception, this guy is really taking off and should be really embraced (not like he isn't already). Bruisers game seems pretty similar to Jamil's, IMO, but he probably doesn't have quite the ceiling

A longer video on Henry Sibley and their road to the State Championship game.
Bruiser is #31, if the red hair wasn't enough
He looks much quicker than a 6'8" redhead should. If he puts on 15-20 lbs and gets a 18 footer Bruiser will be a key piece in the Badgers future

Mbwake did go to Sibley, but they really weren't much before his arrival. You could call them more of a recent power, but I wouldn't say they are on CDH or Hopkins' level

Bruiser and Halverson are named "Impressive Performers" in an AAU tourney in Cincy. The team is currently 4-0 and were playing in the final 4 around 10:20 this morning. Both are said to have high bball IQs and Halverson's recruitment is projected to skyrocket this summer.

WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL
Bruiser scored 20 and hauled down 10 rebounds, Vander scored 16, and Jeronne Maymon had 26 points and 13 rebounds; in Madison's Memorial edging of powerhouse in what was a battle of border powerhouses.
Quote:
Like Memorial, Henry Sibley was a state runner-up last season. The Warriors, who came into the game unbeaten in seven games, have several NCAA Division I recruits, including University of Wisconsin signee Mike Bruesewitz, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
"I think he's going to be great, He's a Bo (Ryan) guy," Collins said of Bruesewitz. "He does everything well. You're going to look at his stats and it's going to be a great stat sheet. He's going to shoot well, he's not going to turn the ball over, he gets offensive and defensive rebounds, he does everything well."
Bruesewitz stands 6-foot-7, and Henry Sibley's rotation also includes 6-8 forwards Chris Halvorsen and Mike Rostampour and 7-foot junior center Jake Kreuser. Halvorsen has signed with Valparaiso, while Rostampour and Kreuser also are getting Division I looks.
"We don't see teams quite like this in Wisconsin, with this kind of size," Collins said. "They're big and they're athletic."

No. 1 tacks on another win
Quote:
Lots of numbers came to mind before Hopkins played at Henry Sibley in a Friday night nonconference matchup of the top boys' basketball teams in Minnesota:
1: Hopkins' ranking in Class 4A;
2: Henry Sibley's ranking;
6: NCAA Division I signees in the starting lineups;
17-1: Teams' combined record.
However, some other numbers hold more importance:
77-66: The final score in Hopkins' victory over the Warriors.
Both teams have some sense of urgency this season because of their talented senior classes. Henry Sibley has two senior forwards headed to Division I programs: Mike Bruesewitz (Wisconsin) and Chris Halvorsen (Valparaiso). The Hopkins Division I signees are forwards Royce White (Gophers), Trent Lockett (Arizona State) and Mike Broghammer (Notre Dame), along with guard Raymond Cowels (Santa Clara). The fifth Hopkins starter, guard Marcus Williams, is considering Division I offers in basketball and football.
All five Hopkins starters scored in double figures Friday, led by Broghammer with 17. Bruesewitz led Henry Sibley with 15 and Halvorsen had 12

Badger Beat - Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball: Coach lauds 'red-headed Minnesota kid' Bruesewitz
Great article on Bruiser. He is being considered for Minnesota's Mr. Basketball. His coach thinks that he will be able to make an immediate impact at UW. He has added an inch and 15 pds since last year. He will be able to play the 3 or 4 according to his coach. Also has great defensive skills.

Bruiser scored 11 points on Saturday, including the game winning jumper with 4 seconds remaining, to lead Henry Sibley over Kaukana in the Border Battle.

kare11.com | Twin Cities, MN | Bruesewitz ready for the big show
1/8/09
Quote:
Henry Sibley senior Mike Bruesewitz is playing much more relaxed this year, playing without the worry of a college scholarship. Bruesewitz committed to Wisconsin last year and, with that out of the way, is now focused solely on what lies ahead for his Warriors.
"I'm still trying to get through this school season and trying to a win a state championship," Bruesewitz said.
When it comes to forwards in Minnesota, Bruesewitz is right up with the best. He's also very versatitle. At 6-foot-7, he is the smallest in the Henry Sibley lineup, which has put him at nearly every position on the floor; a circumstance that makes his game much more adaptable to the college level.
"Because of our size, in a lot of schools where Mike would be the biggest kid, he'd be the obvious center and you'd just stick him in the post and that would be all you'd do," said Sibley head coach, Tom Dasovich. "He kind of does all those things for us."
"It'll help a lot of just getting my perimeter skills better, making reads and that kind of stuff. It will help me a lot when I get to Wisconsin," added Bruesewitz.
Bruesewitz is one of a number of big name recruits over the past few years to head east for college. The reason for Mike and many others is Bo Ryan, whose actions have earned him the reputation of doing what it takes to appeal to players.
"He just loves to talk. He is a personable guy and that's probably why he has been so successful. [It's] his ability to relate to many different types of kids," Bruesewitz said of his future head coach.
"Out of all the coaches I had talked to, he is my favorite to talk to," Dasovich added. "Just as a person in general, he is a great guy."
A great guy who nabbed a prize recruit that has just one more bit of business to take care of before he gets to Madison.
"I really just want to get to that state championship game. And play Hopkins in the state championship game."

On Preps: Sibley blogger is real insider
Quote from Henry Sibley's Head Coach:
Quote:
|
Mike Bruesewitz ... is quite simply the best player in Minnesota and should win Mr. Basketball. I read all of the message boards and some of the comments make me laugh. Not that I don't understand why some of the negative comments are made, I'm just surprised that all these "great basketball minds" don't see it. ... He is that role model that you would like all your players to emulate and your daughters to date.
