I don't care what anyone says, being uncommitted definitely boosts your ranking to the recruiting services. No way he's five stars if he stayed committed __________________

Eliminated UCLA and Arizona and according to a Scout article, will stay close to home.

The Blue recruitment reminds me a lot of Kraig Appleton's last football cycle. The recruit's mother seemingly wants him to go to one school and the recruit himself another. I think that was the derivation of the conflicting commitment rumors. Just as was the case in regards to Appleton's recruitment. Which way the recruit is supposedly leaning is dependent on with whom the conversation has occurred. The difference between the two recruitments is in this case Wisconsin is the school who received the decomittment. I think who has the influence over that decision indicates who has the influence over the final decision. I think ultimately Vander wins over and goes to Marquette to play in a fullcourt offense with his buddy. I hope I'm wrong but that's my projection based on the information I have.
What should we do with the 3rd scholarship available for '10 if Blue does indeed go in another direction? I don't think we can bank it because we'll need a 3rd ball handler for the '10 season. It's not ideal but I think we have to resort to a plan B recruit ala Cerroni.

I hope that if he really feels that he is NBA ready that someone tells him that playing for UW, UCLA or Arizona would be the best for him. I would say that every NBA GM would rather him play in those systems(All 3 99% the same, Tough defense, fundamentally sound) over Buzz's run and gun style.

I agree with Bernini, I hope that I am wrong as well but I have a feeling that MU will out sleeze UW and gain the services of Blue. In regards to the question of what to do if that happens?... Obviously getting Gasser would help but that would also mean that Gasser would be the lone backup guard on scholarship and would be a freshman, not an ideal situation for UW.
I would be surprised if this were to happen but UW might want to go the Juco route ala Zach Morley... ? idk its definitely a stretch but like you said what are our alternatives? Is Valentin or Smith ready to contribute?
If we do go the Juco route, one player who I believe is still out there is DeMarcus Phillips who I would love to have but realize that the chance of that happening is about 0%. Still he is originally from Wisconsin and I believe is still unsigned...

Flavien Davis
Wisconsin has shown no interest in years, but if they aren't going to carry the 2010 schollie over to 2011, I would start by taking another hard look at Flavien Davis.
You might be surprised who might pop up in the next year in the midwest's senior class. Plenty of guys unsigned (though Cerroni is not one of them).

Well, considering the signing period isn't until November, I don't think that can be true.

If he did have point guard skills, I'd take him in a heartbeat. I'd take him over Gasser in spite of the plummeting of his stock. The kid still has immense potential. But he doesn't have point guard skills, unfortunately, and IMO it's an absolute necessity for the last '10 signee. Our season would be just about finished otherwise if Jordan Taylor was sidelined for any significant amount of time the following campaign. Even with him we'd be putting all our eggs in one basket as far as the backup is concerned. In 2010 our pg rotation would be Taylor and Gasser. That's not good enough.

I know you asserted previously in his recruit specific thread that Phillips has plus handles....but are they and his quickness to the point where he could at least be a 3rd point guard with a legit shot at being primary backup caliber? Then he'd fill the minimum requirement for the scholarship athletically....it's not like he needs to be John Stockton in the Swing offense. If he fits that minimum requirement and is up to our grade standards, then I think that's a great idea. He'd be a gap bridger at least until we'd address the pg position in 2011 w/ Randle or whoever, and integrate that player. Zach Morley was one of my favorite players ever at Wisconsin, and I also enjoyed Roy Boone. I'm not averse to giving a kid who was slacking a second chance academically. I recall Phillips was really making up ground in that department during his senior year but he just couldn't quite do enough.

yah his handles are definitely point guard caliber, in fact I would say that outside of maybe Hughes his handles would be the best on the team. That being said, he is more of a scoring guard but as far as quickness and handles are concerned they are more than good enough to serve as a backup point guard. Additionally, we were at one pt recruiting mike mccall... perhaps that picks up again if we think Blue or Gasser are going elsewhere? ... idk should be exciting to see how this plays out over the next month or so.

Technically, you're right, Cerroni has not signed a LOI, but you know what I meant ... he's committed.
I agree that PG is a must for 2010, so I hope things turn out.

Committed to Marquette.
Good luck Van ill definitely still root for you.
Now from out perspective this hurts more then just a little the depth at guard has gotten even worse now. Im not liking how things are shaking up even one bit.
Bo has to start recruiting, you can give me all the BS about how he doesnt need the most talented players to win, but he does need talent and right now we have 0 talent at guard coming in for the next few years. Gasser is nice, but anyway you slice it he was a late offer due to moronic decision making.
