Wisconsin decommitment a lesson for message-board miscreants - NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBSSports.com News, Fantasy, Video
Quote:
May 22, 2009
By Gary Parrish
CBSSports.com Senior Writer
Sticks and stones will break your bones but words will never hurt you.
Unless, of course, you're Vander Blue.
In that case, the words hurt.
And it was only a matter of time before we got here, wasn't it
"These so-called Wisconsin fans, what they had to say on those [message boards], it really made me second-guess: Do people really want me here?" Blue told Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "Because I know if I was a fan and I heard about a recruit [who might be struggling academically], I'd be more like: 'What can we do to help him?' And not, 'Let's make him feel like the worst person in Madison right now.'"
Vander Blue decommitted from Wisconsin earlier this week.
It was not national news.
He is not John Wall.
But what made it a national story -- and perhaps a lesson for the uncivilized world of message boards, if we're lucky -- is that the decommitment was prefaced by a story about the Madison native's alleged academic woes, which led to some Wisconsin fans spending their days publicly bashing the Class of 2010 standout on the Internet. They questioned his attitude, character and intelligence. And guess what? Vander Blue read it and it bothered him.

All I have to say is that he obviously didn't read ours

"fans" are either morons or not Wisconsin fans.

Agreed Troy, this is definitely the most respectable Badger board that I have been too. Clearly, we all love Vander and want him to suit up for the grateful red. Vander if you come here, we will fully, 110% support you. People, including me, came to the state championship game just to watch there future badger star, Vander Blue. I was amazed at what Blue did and once in awhile would have sudden day dreams of how nice it would be to have him playing at Wisconsin. Especially seeing as I will likely be attending the U-Dub in 2010.

Ebay, what is the latest? It's odd to me that he decommitted and then we haven't hear anything about offers, official visits, interest, etc in the subsequent 2 weeks.

I don't think Wisconsin would have offered if they didn't believe Vander would be able to cut it gradewise. That is why they never recruited Maymon. As for Greg and Marcus, they were not risks coming into school. Greg had other problems and Marcus was .01 below what he needed (GPA) to be able to play and finished his career with no other problems. I hope Vander understands that the internet has many people accusing kids of everything that are not actually fans of the school on whose board they are posting. I would guess the real Wisconsin fans were thrilled when Vander committed to UW, I know I was.

All that is really going on with this Vander Bashing is simple. Its like getting dumped by the ugly chick. Its embarrassing, it sucks and of coarse your going to make up reason why its not your fault.....
No I did not just call VB the ugly chick its my best attempt at a Cowherd analogy...

I'm sorry, but if im vander blue. I'm not listening to idiots on messages boards. Theres so so so so so many idiots on message boards on the internet. If I was him, first of all I wouldn't read message boards, and if I did read them, I would laugh at the idiots who have no idea what they are talking about. Please Vander don't listen to these idiots. Wisconsin is a great school, Bo is a great coach, Madison is a great city. Not to mention the up and coming basketball program. If I had to guess after his great state tournament display, and all the hype he got. He probably started thinking.. maybe I should look at other schools. Its just my guess. I don't know.

That is exactly whats been said the main reason he decommited was to make sure that he made the right decision which is probably an extremely smart thing to do.

A good article by Mark Miller detailing UW's Advanced Camp this past Monday and Tuesday.
Of note, Blue was in attendance.

couple to watch
* Madison Memorial sophomore Jamar Morris (6-4) competed as hard as any other player in camp. Morris played on the JV squad as a freshman at Memorial, but figures to contend for a starting spot on the varsity squad in 2009-10.
Aaron White, a 6-8 junior from Strongsville, Ohio
* Look for incoming Sun Prairie freshman Nick Fuller (6-2) to be a four-year varsity player for the Cardinals. A poised and physically strong point guard, Fuller can make perimeter jump shots and get to the basket.

Ha, beat me to it
EBay:
1) Can you confirm that Vander is in summer school?
2) Betw the summer school and his attendance of UW's camps, can you comment on the fact that it seems he is still quite interested in UW?

Wisconsin is still very much in the picture in my opinion, based off his comments ater the press-conference, to the things you mentioned.
