Wisconsin High School Basketball - Boys / Youth Basketball - Boys
From Mark Miller:
"Add Providence College to the list of schools in hot pursuit of Madison Memorial junior Jeronne Maymon. Providence called this week and offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-6 forward. Maymon plans to take an unofficial visit to Marquette today."

Big News out of the Rivals Camp

Maymon will decide next Tuesday. His dad seems hilarious in the article, stating that schools will be considered if they offer over the weekend.
Seems like a very short-sited decision. Tennessee maybe? I'm really not sure. His dad sure doesn't seem to be.

Mark Miller's Blurb
Quote:
Maymon’s visit to Marquette goes well
According to Tim Maymon, the father of Madison Memorial junior Jeronne Maymon, the unofficial visit the family took to Marquette on Tuesday went well.
“It was great meeting with Buzz Williams and the other coaches,” Tim Maymon said. “Things went well.”
Marquette, Iowa State, Baylor, USC, Tennessee, Kansas and Minnesota are the leaders for the 6-6 Maymon, who plans to take part in the prestigious Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions event this weekend in North Carolina as a member of the Illinois Bobcats travel team.

I think it's a good decision on his part actually, Heavy. He can finally secure his basketball future and transfer 90 percent of the focus for the next school year, onto repairing his academic problems.
I'm rooting for Iowa State or Tennessee, CIMD. Normally I'd prefer home grown players to choose either of the Wisconsin schools, but I think the best thing for Jeronne would be to get a healthy distance away from the negative influences in his life. However, seeing as though the decision is coming right after the Marquette visit, I've got to think they're the favorite.

He is announcing his decision on tuesday...
My guess is that he will be choosing Marquette seeing how he just took that visit and now has made up his mind

I don't mind the timing, but when his father says he may choose a school not in his top 5 or whatever that seems like a poor decision. It looks like he could end up at a school he never visited, which I believe is just poor parenting.
I have to bet its Tennessee, mostly because Pearl is ruthless

I got ya. Outside of opting for Marquette or a couple others, he could be prone to a decommitment. I'm not aware of all the schools he's visited, but I know Iowa State isn't one of them.
Knowing Tim Maymon though, he probably only made the comment so schools desperately offer Jeronne at the last minute, thinking they have a chance. When in actuality the sole purpose is to be able to say in the future, "you know my son had an offer from Kentucky?". I feel strongly he'll choose Marquette on Tuesday. Do the Maymon's really have thousands of dollars in discretionary money in order to fly back and forth to Southern Cal or Tennessee? I can see Tim at the Bradley Center every game with his custom made blown-up Jeronne Maymon portrait t-shirt and #1 dad foam finger.

Here's an article where Tim Maymon talks about his son aka the greatest basketball player to ever play....
WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL
Here's a quote from it:
``He has been very interested in UW, but UW is not interested in him,'' Tim Maymon said. ``If they ever have to face him, they'll see why the should have got him.''
This guy needs to shut his mouth. Jeronne maymon has had terrible grades, been suspened because of gang violence in high school and he expects uw with no scholarships to go after maymon...Tim maymon is a joke.
He also throws in some words for devonte maymon who "apparently" had interest from Marquette..Probably only to get jeronne cuz they knew tim would be a sucker for it

If he goes to Marquette we'll have to face him every year. I'm not looking forward to the prospect for one. But like you said he'll have to qualify first. I had never heard of the gang violence issue.
Here's an overview of Maymon's recruitment from Mark Miller:

We’ll find out Tuesday morning as the Maymon family has scheduled an 8 a.m. press conference at the Genesis Corporation in Madison. aymon, a rugged 6-foot-6 forward, is expected to announce which college he’ll attend at the press conference.
Here’s a quick look at the top contenders for Maymon …

Got good laughs out of both of these. The only sad part is that they both are or are likely to be true

I actually think there might be something to MU's interest in Devonte. The WSJ article mentions MU's increased interest in Devonte, and that he had been interested in a prep school out east, but now is planning on attending a school in Houston, TX.
With Buzz being from Houston and desperately needing to get some momentum after he loses his 3 guards next season, he might be willing to throw away a scholarship to land a highly regarded in state player, and the fan base will get a warm and fuzzy feeling because he is from Madison.
Another interesting note from the article was that Maymon is expected to have a 2.2 gpa at summer's end with a curriculum loaded with gym and study halls, but #1 dad expects him to graduate with a 3.0 after taking a full load of core classes his senior year.

Marquette reporter's interview with Jeronne's father, Tim.
Nobody will ever confuse Tim's father with a diplomat.
I laughed uncontrollably when he said Jeronne's wingspan is 7'6.75". As an NBA draftnik, I'm well aware of the history of wingspan measurements. To give everyone a little context, Brandan Wright and Sheldon Williams were hyped as having freakishly long wingspans for their height, yet their's were only 7'4" each. And both players are significantly taller than Jeronne (by the way Jeronne measured 6'7" according to his dad, which is plausible).
His dad projected him to the point guard or shooting guard spot. I completely disagree with that assertion. I think the motive was to ensure the basketball was in Jeronne's hands at the start of every possession. Realistically he's a poor man's Lebron James (not a knock), so he definitely can't guards most 1's and 2's.
In trying to hype his son, Jamil Wilson got caught in the crossfire. Said Jamil wasn't college ready.
He went to town on the Wisconsin Scout site (Badger Nation) for doubting his son. Which I agree with in part, however he was a bit extreme as he was with everything. I've always alleged that many fans over there minimized his abilities on the court because he would never end up at Wisconsin. But his issues in the classroom are nobody else's fault but his own. Tim said his GPA is lacking in his core classes, but he will improve and qualify. Jeronne is basically done playing AAU basketball and is going to focus on summer school henceforth.
His father chose Marquette, Baylor, and Iowa State as Jeronne's top 3. I guess the choice is going to be made democratically within his family up to the top 3?

No surprise here. The positive is that he's staying in state so we can follow his career. I'll always root for our home grown kids as long as they aren't big time thugs. And Jeronne is a joy to watch. The negative is that I'll have to mute the television every time I watch Marquette in order to hear his father yelling incessantly. The Bradley Center was named the loudest building in the NBA earlier this decade.....and that was before they housed Tim Maymon.
More on the verbal: Rivals $
He's looking forward to playing fastbreak basketball and his former teammate Vander Blue.

Probably the best decision he could have made in his situation. Now lets see if his academics can rise enough to let him see the court
