It goes 8 mins and shows Kelm just playing his game, not a highlight reel or anything. He is #44. Looks like a work-in-progress, but he had some nice touch around the basket and some nice passes. He is definitely not the "focal point" of the offense and has 2+ years to improve his game.

RANDOLPH vs ELEVA-STRUM (03/07/08 at Kohl Center - Madison, Wisconsin)

Kelm's line: 13 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks, 5 TO and 1-7 from three in 30 minutes

From what I saw in his only game here at state, Kelm has a long way to go. While Evan Anderson is a back to the basket post at 6'11" and solid, Kelm is more like a wing at 6'9" and has more of a slight build. He didn't show much of a post game (relative to Anderson at least), and his shot wasn't falling from the outside, but he still finished 5-13 from the field. He also seemed kind of awkward with the ball, which the 5 TO illustrate. Anderson's coach described him as being a 4 out of 10 on the development scale, and by comparison I'd say Kelm is about a 2. He's really raw. But maybe he just had a bad game, it's hard to evaluate someone fairly after only seeing them once.

Bonus:
-I was actually more impressed with Tyler Tillema (younger brother of UWGB's Ryan) than with anyone else on Randolph. He had a pretty good game.
-During the game I wondered what kind of damage Stiemsma would be able to do at the D-IV level. Turns out he went 26-0 to win the state championship his senior year. Sounds about right.

I have played against Kelm and Evan Anderson in AAU and I would have to say that kelm is much better. Kelm hit eight threes against us and finished with 40 points including a pair of powerful dunks.

Anderson on the other hand had two points and four rebounds. He is really slow and if you get into a running game he is in serious trouble.

So on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give kelm a 9 and anderson 6.

Down in Madison though Kelm did play poorly. He really relies on his three point shot and it just wasn't falling. Anderson did okay at state.

Greg Stiemsma and Ryan Tillema both dominated at D4. Dan Tillema and Tyler Tillema are both brothers of Ryan. They both were dominating as well. Stiemsma had 12 blocks in the state semi-final game is senior year and an off the backboard facial to seal the game in the state championship.

I have seen Anderson play and thought he was a plodder. He needs to develop his footwork substantially to be any kind of factor on the offensive end. By the time he can get his body squared to the hoop, there is a defender in position for an alter. Defensively is where he may make his mark with the Badgers, or somewhere else. He'll probably end up on Wisconsin. For the most part I think he was offered early because of his unusual height for his age, hoping he would progress when he got more used to his body, but that hasn't quite come to fruition yet.

I haven't seen Kelm play, but supposedly he has a long way to go also. Hitting 8 3's is impressive, but I don't have an affinity for taller guys who play on the perimeter. You need post play from 4's and 5's for proper spacing. Also, when bigs are perimeter oriented, they tend to be very streaky. There are a lot more moving parts involved than a smaller player.

There still only sophomores though. Flavien Davis is by far the best sophomore prospect in Wisconsin, IMO.

I have seen Flavien play and he is an absolute beast great athlete if I were Wisconsin I would put him at the top of the recruiting list.Question Anderson is #5 or something on rivals top 10 for 2010 is he really that under developed?

The most impressive individual performance of the day belonged to Randolph sophomore Kyle Kelm, who tossed in 25 points for the talented Wisconsin Swing 16U squad in their loss to the Tosa Bandits. Kelm knocked down five three-point baskets from different spots on the floor, posted up strong and scored in the lane, and also had a few put-back baskets. The 6-9 Kelm has always been known as an extremely skilled shooter facing the basket, but he also displayed some mental and physical toughness in helping his team remain within striking distance of the hot-shooting Tosa Bandits in the quarterfinals. Kelm currently has scholarship offers from Iowa State, UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee as well as interest from a number of other NCAA Division I schools. If he continues to play like he did Sunday, there is no doubt he will receive additional scholarship offers in the spring and summer.

Sophomore Kyle Kelm is the poster child for why you need to watch players multiple times to gain a complete understanding of their talents on the basketball court. After a somewhat ordinary showing in the WIAA Division 4 State Tournament last month – 13 points and five rebounds are solid but he also missed eight shots and committed five turnovers in a loss to Eleva-Strum -- Kelm opened plenty of eyes the past two weekends playing for a solid and well-coached Wisconsin Swing squad. Kelm looked very much like a high-major NCAA Division I prospect on Sunday, using his 6-9 size to score in the lane as well as from the perimeter. Kelm has always been an excellent shooter from three-point range, but he has also gained some physical strength and can go inside and score as well. He blocked several shots throughout the day and was active on the glass on both ends of the court for coach Tyler Selk, who guided his team to a runner-up finish to the Saint Louis Eagles in the 16U bracket. Bradley, Iowa State, UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee have offered scholarships to Kelm, but I’d expect many more offers to come his way in coming months if he continues to play like he did at the Team Duke Tournament two weeks ago as well as at the NY2LA event this weekend.

One of our most pressing needs for 2010 will be true power forwards. We have a disproportionate number of 7 foot (+/- 2) posts already. Kelm's description appears tantamount to Leuer skill-set. He potentially could slide into Leuer's role in 2011, after a year of seasoning his true freshman year. The most important part of his development with me will be his ability to continually add strength comfortably, as well gain frontcourt instincts.

We need to FINALLY take advantage of the talent in state for the '09-'10 classes. We're falling in love with outsiders like Badger fans used to accuse Tom Crean of doing.
