New Marquette University coach Buzz Williams extended his first scholarship offer to a player from the class of 2010 Wednesday evening.

And the player is a fast-rising Wisconsin prep product from one of the state’s most respected programs.

Randolph sophomore Kyle Kelm received the offer from Williams Wednesday after taking an unofficial visit to Marquette along with Chip Rank of Cedarburg and Josh Gasser of Port Washington........

After a somewhat sluggish performance at the WIAA Division 4 State Tournament last March, Kelm has burst onto the travel-team scene in a big-time way and is pushing for the top spot in the Wishoops.net Player Rankings for the class of 2010 when they are updated late next week. After receiving a scholarship offer from Marquette University last week, Kelm put his vast array of offensive skills on full display in the McGuire Center Sunday. My choice for Most Valuable Player of the 16U bracket, Kelm once again made three-point shots, rebounded and blocked some shots. But he also showed the ability to put the ball on the floor and create for either himself or his teammates. In one impressive sequence, Kelm caught the ball outside the three-point line, gave a ball fake to a defender who flew by in an attempt to block the shot, and then put the ball on the floor for one dribble, rose up and swished a three-pointer. Kelm had 19 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots in a semifinal victory over Development Through Athletics.

Badgers are still one of the teams showing interest, in spite of our scholarship situation. Kelm was en fuego from deep this AAU season. No new offers to report. From his perspective I thought it was kind of telling that he listed the 3 in state schools first while listing his offers. Indicates that he's a homer. Won't decide til after his junior season so that gives adequate time for a necessary change to occur at Wisconsin.

Bo Ryan offered Kelm a 5 year roster spot, 4 years on scholarship, deal, shortly subsequent to filling his '10 scholarship allotment. Kyle told him at the time he wasn't interested. The article goes on to talk about how Iowa State will likely be in the mix until he commits.

Kelm scored 26 points and grabbed 8 boards as Randolph doubled up Markesan. Pretty strong start to the season for Kelm, at least in the scoring column. He's averaging 17.6 points per game.

Word is Syracuse could be offering any moment along with Minnesota. I don't know if the Badgers can get him.

Do the Badgers even want him?

Kelm's stock seemed to have dropped quite a bit since last year, and now he was injured for much of this spring and summer. It would seem odd that big programs like Syracuse or Minnesota are now ready to offer when they did not get a chance to see him compete during the recent open evaluation periods.

Randolph's Kelm joins Cuba City's Richard as incoming recruits for Milwaukee

Kyle committed to Milwaukee. Very happy for my alma mater....they finally have a legit D1 recruit with size. However, in the article Mark uncovers why there was a major drop-off in interest in Kelm within the last half year or so. He suffered a similar injury as Joe Krabbenhoft, and everybody knows how that sapped his explosiveness and the fluidity in the jumper. The latter was the biggest weapon that Kelm possessed. Bad break for him, literally.
