Marquette already has offered Lacy a scholarship and he said it is the front-runner, but Purdue, Tennessee, Miami, Wisconsin and Iowa State also have shown interest.

Bay View junior Johnnie Lacy poured in 47 points, but the Redcats could have used at least one more in an 87-86 loss to Milwaukee North on Wednesday.


Lacy, who came into the game as the area's sixth-leading scorer, shot 11 of 14 from the floor, drilling 8 three-pointers. His previous season high was 29 points.

Puzzling why the Badgers don't offer him. We could use more guards, especially an outside sharpshooter.

Wow, 47 points and 8 3's is nasty for anywhere, but especially the state of Wisconsin and some of the styles we employ. Grades aside, he should be under consideration for a Badger schollie, because you've got to be loyal to the in staters, and we'll only have one experienced point in '10 if we wait til the next cycle. Generally you should have 3 players who are capable of playing the position.

It seems strange to me that the Badgers aren't offering Lacy as well. It seems that we would have a better shot at Jamil as the two are AAU buddies and have expressed interest in playing together. Also, he (along with Jamil and Jeronne) are ranked by many sites as the top 3 recruits for 2009 in Wisconsin. Are Lacy and Maymon not being offered solely b/c of the academic issues? If so, is there a shot at offering them if they improve in this area or have we written them off for our 2009 recruits?

Another question....how large of a factor do you think Jamil wanting to play with Lacy will effect his choice? It seems Lacy is going to Marquette for sure is the Badgers don't get in there fast (which it looks like they won't).

Hey guys- Ive been reading these boards for a couple months and finally signed up. Ive seen Lacy play a few times (not this year tho so take it FWIW). I dont think that he would fit in the swing at all. He is pretty short. He does have a nice shot but he is streaky. He can fill it up. His streakyness is evident by scoring 47 points in one game and scoring 4 last night. I think that he will be a decent player somewhere but I think that he would not be a good fit at all in the swing.

O- and another thing about the scoring in Wisconsin (not to take anything away from the 47 points) but when when Ive seen Bay View the past few years (not this one tho) they could play with a 15 second shot clock and never get a violation.

When was the last time Bo offered someone under 6' tall?

I can't think of an offer, much less a player at UW under 6. Like Bo Knows was saying, if Bay View plays a real up-tempo game that doesn't mesh with the swing that may also be playing a factor. Looks like our beloved Johnnie may not be getting an offer.

I was being a little excitable at the time when I asserted Lacy should be under serious consideration for an offer from Bo. 47 points in D1 Wisconsin basketball isn't something you see every day. He seems to be a similar case as Korie Lucious. A 5'10" undersized combination guard. The difference was we offered Korie very early expecting him to grow. Sheets, that would be the last time Bo offered a player under 6' tall. During the most recent recruiting cycle. Therefore it is possible and I can't fathom why it would especially be a problem in the swing offense. Maybe because it's more predicated on seeing over the defense and dumping the ball into the post than it is penetrating. Anyways, I've come to terms with not offering Johnnie Lacy. You have to accomodate in state talent but some players just don't fit your team. He's a little bit of a reckless player who would probably be too turnover prone for Bo's tolerance. We also need a combination guard like I've said and preferably he'd be around Bohannon's height at least. A superb true point guard under 6 feet I'd take any day. You're telling me we'd reject T.J. Ford if he wanted to come to Wisconsin?

That has Hughes written all over it. It takes a little seasoning, but eventually Bo can usually mold players into the style of play that he likes. Hughes has shown a lot of development already in two short years. With that in mind, I am not even sure if that is the reasoning. It may just be that Bo likes other available guards better, which we may have to come to terms with. I agree though, I was salivating a lot more after he put up 47 then I am now. He obviously will wind up D1 somewhere, probably with Crean.

Hughes had 4-5 years at a military academy so I'm sure that helped somewhat with discipline. Also, if you watched his team while he was there, you would have seen a team that played with a lot of structure. Often they would hold the ball on the perimeter for 20-30 seconds without even trying to get in the scoring zone. It was to a lesser degree tantamount to the way Milwaukee Vincent played last year with Diante Garrett practically stalling at times. The styles are dissimilar to what Lacy plays at Bay View. He would be a tougher nut to crack for Bo.

I'm way late in the game for this, but that's what happens when you're up late at night with nothing else to do. So take it for what it's worth.

Hughes has the physical traits that Lacy doesn't. It could be that the lack of size and other physical things PLUS the different styles and recklessness were what pushed him out of the zone of offers.

And this is easy to say now, but I'm happy with how the class has turned out. Taylor (especially) and Bruesewitz with possibly Wilson to replace Krabbenhoft, Landry, and (originally Perry but now) Gullikson? Sounds like a good turnover. Krabbs plays SG, SF, and PF, Landry plays SF and PF, (Perry played SG) and Gully plays PF. For the new class Bruesewitz and Wilson play SF and PF, and Taylor plays SG and when need be PG. Looks like Bo's covering his bases pretty well.

Another solid player for the Playground Elite is 5-10 guard Johnnie Lacy of Milwaukee Bay View. Lacy is extremely difficult to contain one-on-one and he made his usual assortment of difficult shots against the Saint Louis Eagles. At 5-10, though, he needs to take on more of a point guard mentality and get his teammates involved on a more consistent basis.

He displayed exceptional leadership ability on both ends and pretty much established that he is one of the elite PG prospects nationally this weekend.
