Bo would talk with Wilson before he would take another commit.

Here are my thoughts....

If Ryan Evans does indeed walk-on (which it sounds like he will), I am assuming that this is Bo's way of securing a solid SF thus being able to wait for Wilson. If Wilson decides to commit elsewhere, we then have the option of banking the scholarship for 2010 (i.e. Flavien Davis as a SF) and we still have Evans as a great SF.

Also, with Gullikson staying on for next year, the talks of adding another '08 kid are likely over (uness someone were to transfer).

In other words, I think Bo is setting things up nicely to wait for Wilson. Also, I wouldn't worry about Bo taking a 3rd commit without communicating with Wilson 1st.

I have it from a fairly good source that Ryan Evans is very likely going to be coming on scholarship next year, with him taking Gully's ride.

First post here and no track record, but we should know soon enough if this is so.

An article written by rivals says that Ryan Evans is likely to come on in 2008 as a walk-on, meaning he wouldn't be at UW on scholarship.

Also, an article written a week or so ago has Greg Gard saying that Gullikson is remaining on the team next year. So, I am guessing that they are not going to pull his scholarship for Evans.

We should know in the next couple weeks when Evans officially announces, but sources point to Evans being a walk-on and no scholarship.

The only thing I could possibly see happening is Evans earns a scholarship in the future or maybe he will get Gullikson's starting his Sophomore year.....after Gullikson graduates.

Gard said he would be back, but he did not say he would be back on scholarship. The Rivals article is wrong. Evans has been very guarded about his recruitment so very little info out there.

The insiders with established track records have been saying definitively for a while that Jamil wouldn't end up at Wisconsin.

TroyD supposedly has had conversations with Wilson and he claims Wisconsin is the favorite. So the lack of interest is not on Jamil's part. I doubt Wisconsin would have a complete lack of interest in a likely in state Burger Boy, especially one they already offered.

So the deduction I would logically draw is that the final scholarship available for the 08-09 cycles was already rewarded to someone. Whether it's to Jenkins, Prosser, Evans, or someone else high on the Badgers; I don't know. I have no reason not to believe CaveDave (who is cave aged to perfection, btw), that Evans is our guy. One poster I read contradicted the Rivals article about Evans, saying if he were coming to Wisconsin, it would be on scholarship. Another inkled that Bo might be accepting a player that the recruitniks wouldn't be overly happy with.

I could see Bo moving on an '08 recruit because he's sick and tired of flaming out in the NCAA tourney, in part because he hasn't used his full allotment of scholarships in the past few years (I'm sick of that too). Every time we suffer one or two injuries, it's doomsday for our outlook. We're starting with anywhere from 10-12 true scholarship players because of walk-ons, redshirts, banking, etc. There are just less opportunities to find enough legitimate rotation players as a result. .

Theoretically, Crean's departure from Marquette should have benefitted our case with Wilson. Crean employed a much more up tempo style, which was arguably their biggest advantage over Wisconsin. The new coach they hire may be more halfcourt oriented like Bo. Then I'd like our chances if Jamil was determined to stay in state. There's still almost a year until Jamil makes his decision. In that time a player could transfer (for grades, character, friction, PT) or declare early for the NBA (probably unlikely with our personnel). It's far from impossible that Jamil will be a Badger come March of 2009.

I think it is a stretch to say that Bo is taking another player in 2008 for the reasons that you threw out there. While it is certainly preferable to have a full roster, Bo will not take anyone just to have a 13th body on scholarship.

Bo wouldn't take Evans if he didn't really like him.

No doubt a lot of knee-jerk fans will be unhappy when the next verbal becomes public, but there will always be more to the story that people will never know about.

I think it's a reasonable theory. Evans just isn't a "body". But he's also not receiving an immense amount of attention from other D1 programs. Even though he's a late bloomer, you'd expect a couple other high majors to notice his progress. I doubt he's better than an uber prospect like Jamil or several other guys in the '09 class who we'd have about a year to convince. Bo gets a guy who will probably contribute to the program, but doesn't have much of a chance to be 1st Team All Big Ten.

I don't think that is true. When Alando was in HS, who would have said he had the potential to be a national POY candidate? He was nowhere to be found in the RSCI top 100.

Bo has a track record developing this type of player. The staff likes him a lot. Once you get outside the top 100 there isn't a huge drop off from one player to the next.

I certainly am not questioning his star potential because of his paltry recruiting ranking. It's more about not having any other legitimate D1 interest that I'm aware of. Unless you can inform me otherwise. We weren't the only programs recruiting Alando Tucker and Devin Harris. Also, 30 percent from beyond the arc is nothing to write home about. Shooting is an important skill for a perimeter player of course. And if a prospect shoots that poorly you'd expect him to compensate by being a great passer. He was third on his team with 1.9 assists per game. All the articles I've read and his numbers seem to paint the picture of a defensive specialist on the next level.

Jamil played in the Spring/Dean's-Food Classic in Sheboygan this past weekend. I don't know if anyone else is aware of the particular event, but I participated in it about 10 years ago, and my team got annihilated about 100-30 in the opening round. But I was my team's leading scorer with 12 points at least. The competition is usually very stiff......

Nevertheless, Wilson's team (WOMT) disappointed in losing to a local team of no namers called the Elkhart Area Lakers. In addition to Wilson, the WOMT squad featured other notable Wisconsin basketballers like: Johnnie Lacy, Steve Stovall, Eric Williams, and Nathan Zastrow (committed to North Dakota St.). They were transferred to the elimination bracket where they eventually lost in the final. Wilson scored 20, 17, and 15 in 3 of the games.

I wish I was aware Jamil was competing in the tournament last week. I could have given an in person evaluation and possibly scored an interview.

Jamil was dismayed by the news that Crean would be departing Marquette for Indiana. He had an affinity for coach Crean, and their stock dropped some in his eyes, but they won't be completely eliminated until the new head coach is announced.

I'd root for a head coach with a halfcourt style to be hired at MU. In spite of potentially meeting our scholarship cap for the time being, we still have a better shot at landing Jamil than most 5-star players.

Four good reasons Jamil Wilson will be intently watching the upcoming NCAA Division I Final Four:

Kansas.

North Carolina.

UCLA.

Memphis.

Each of the aforementioned powerhouses is actively recruiting Wilson, the silky-smooth 6-foot-6 small forward from Horlick High School.

Wilson, who is generally considered one of the top 10 juniors in the nation, has yet to determine the five schools he’ll officially visit. However, he won’t make an official visit to either Wisconsin or Marquette — simply because he’s been to both of those schools on numerous occasions.

The Playground Elite squad is loaded with some of the top class of 2009 players in Wisconsin and is led by 6-foot-7 forward Jamil Wilson of Racine Horlick. Wilson looks longer and more athletic every time I watch him and though he was not spectacular, he did show the kind of versatility that has collegiate recruiters from across the country excited about his potential at the next level. Simply put, there is nothing Wilson cannot do on the court. The trick for Wilson is to do it more consistently and many believe that will come with maturity.......

I asked Playground Elite coach Bryan Johnikin about the recruiting status of Wilson and Lacy as it relates to Marquette University with the move of coach Tom Crean to Indiana University last week. Both Wilson and Lacy had scholarship offers from Crean when he was the coach at Marquette. Johnikin said Crean has contacted him and plans to get involved with both Wilson and Lacy in his new role at Indiana. Johnikin also said he believes the same could be said for Marquette, though a lot will depend on who the Golden Eagles hire as their new head coach.
