Leuer has been doing some catch and shoot with little or no noticeable discomfort. While this doesn't mean that he is fully healed, it is a good sign. My guess is that he will be back before March, with a best case scenario of him suiting up at Minnesota on the 18th. I think a fair guess might be @Indiana on the 25th, which would give him three Big Ten games + the B10 tourney to get back to full speed. I would be shocked if he ended up sitting the rest of the year

This weekend's game against the Goofs is what I've always been hoping for, and recently have started expecting. It may be cognitive dissonance, but of course he is from the land of 10 lakes (and about 9,990 ditches that fill with dirty rainwater) and had to be bitter about what transpired against that team last year. I know I am. They had no business winning the game at Madison, and we certainly were in position to win at their dumpy arena. That should provide extra motivation and get more blood running through his tender wrist as a result. We'll need him to win that game and the finale @ Illinois, IMO. We haven't secured a home win as impressive as either thus far.
I actually think tomorrow's game against the Illini could be a struggle, even though it's at Kohl and we have some momentum. Largely, Bucky has been overcoming teams with a whole lot of height and basketball skill in the frontcourt. Illinois has both in Mike squared. We haven't played anyone with near Tisdale's combination of size and touch since Robert Sacre, who caused us fits against the Zags. Bo can't seriously consider sticking with his typical starting lineup consisting of Tim Jarmusz. Mike Davis could eat him up before his inevitable yank, and why give the opponent a head start. He should just make an adjustment and employ Evans from the beginning. Hopefully we see some more Jared Berggren. He'll be needed in the tournament so we don't succumb size match-up deficiencies ala from 03-05 when Wilkinson was outplayed by May, Estil, and Troutman.

Well Mike Davis hasn't been starting the last few games, so starting Jarmusz against Tyler Griffey doesn't bother me much. Bring in Evans when Davis enters

Nankivil's defense, especially on pick and roll/pop, has been driving me crazy all year. He needs to start showing hard, forcing the guard to dribble around him, further away from the roller, and also impeding his vision. Today is just a microcosm of what's been happening against that play all season. About 25 of Illinois' 33 points to this juncture in the game can be attributed to Nankivil in some way. He's not closing out on McCamey and he's shooting over him, or not recovering on Tisdale for the roll.
Heavy, obviously Bruce saw the same thing as I in returning Davis to the starting lineup. Fortunately though Davis isn't giving Jarmusz any problems *crossing fingers*. He's actually shown some aggressiveness on penetration, and quickened both his jumper and leap for rebounds. Let's hope it continues.

For a guy hailed by some at TOS as a "genius", and "as good as any coach in the nation", Bo Ryan sure does enough inexplicable crap. Case in point playing Tim Jarmusz down the stretch of a game where we're trying to overcome a deficit. Where was Rob Wilson? He certainly helped in coming back against Michigan. With Tim Jarmusz of course it's like playing 4 on 5, and that puts pressure on every other player on the team to be the man and often score against double teams.
The Badgers were living on the edge too much without Leuer. We finally fell off the cliff. He NEEDS to return against Minnesota or we're out of the race, essentially. The team can't afford another loss. The Big Ten winner projects to have around 4 defeats.
Props to McCamey on his performance. He was tough to stop.

Hughes played terrible in the second half. Did anyone make a meaningful shot in the last ten minutes besides JBo? When they aren't falling, they really aren't falling.
I'm also starting to think, as Keaton goes, the Badgers go. When he is hitting and playing tough D this team looks great. When he's not, we can't drive near as effectively and lack the tough defender inside. We definitely need Leuer back, all the way back too.

Big loss last night..
Recruiting wise- Randle's favorite beat us at home. Not good. Jim Jackson, who announced the game last night, seemed to be hyping up WI. Hopefully we can get Traveon to committ.
