'10 JC WI G Demarcus Phillips
Demarcus Phillips
Milwaukee Washington (WI) Milwaukee
Marshalltown CC
Ht: 6'3
Wisconsin High School Basketball - Boys / Youth Basketball - Boys
Quote:
Though DeMarcus Phillips may be a bit under the radar in terms of state-wide recognition, there is little doubt the athletic, competitive and versatile 6-foot-2 wing guard always had the respect of his peers in Milwaukee.
Just ask Milwaukee Washington coach Jay Kenseth.
“More and more people are hearing about him now, but I don’t think DeMarcus was ever under the radar in terms of his peers in Milwaukee,” Kenseth said. “They always knew he was a very good player.”

Quote:
Kenseth said many NCAA Division I schools have expressed interest in Phillips, who likely will need to attend a junior college next season. Two-year schools from across the Midwest have initiated the recruiting process with Phillips.
“DeMarcus has always been able to get to the basket, but his jump shot is much improved this season,” Kenseth said. “He’s scoring from the outside and the inside for us. His overall game is progressing very well. All of his fundamentals are better. He’s handling the ball better, he’s shooting better and he’s passing better.
“But the biggest thing with DeMarcus is the leadership he has shown this season. He is making our team better because of his unselfishness.”

Well I dont really remember Phillips considering he was never an option at Wisconsin, He did win Wisconsin Mr. Basketball in 07. If I rember correct though he was a very versatile player, never really excelled at any particular thing, but was well rounded. His grades really hurt his D1 interest im sure of that much.

Demarcus Phillips is a beast... having seen him play multiple times while he was at Washington he definitely was one of the more talented players that I have seen come out of Milwaukee in recent years. Supreme athlete, with great handles, great heart and a shot that steadily improved throughout his high school career. Just out of curiosity, is Wisconsin looking at him at all? I know Iowa St. is but just wanted to see if he popped up on here due to interest from the Badgers or something...
If they are looking at him, it would be a huge and extremely underrated addition to our squad IMO... Assuming his grades are now in order (As troy alluded to, they are really the only reason he didnt go D1 out of high school) I really hope we are recruiting him.

I just posted him on here because I know and respect the Badger fans on here, and I wanted there opinion on him. I don't believe they are currently recruiting him.

Maymon wasn't recruited by UW, and he has his own thread. As long as its a Wisconsin kid I'm ok with it - I'm glad it was brought to my attention, as I learned more about a recent WI basketball player that I otherwise wouldn't have.
