One of the Illini's main targets has been Rock Island's Chasson Randle.
The 6-foot-2 guard has already received offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State and Bradley. Other schools showing interest include Wisconsin, Florida, Kansas and Purdue. Randle's AAU coach, Mike Mullins of the Illinois Wolves, expects the sophomore to continue to impress as he improves.
"I think there's guys you walk in the gym and they look the part. Then the game starts and they don't necessarily produce the way they look," Mullins said. "Chasson's a kid that's done both, and he's done it playing three or four years up at a very young age. He's very gifted athletically. He's long, very, very quick, great first step, plays well with both hands. He has really improved his shooting in this last year."......

Scored 22 points and grabbed 6 boards in the Assembly Hall Shootout. Is rumoured to favor Illinois, but doesn't confirm that. However, he did talk very complimentary of the Illini (to their reporter). Chasson is coming to Madtown on December 23rd to see the Badgers take on the highly ranked Longhorns.
Illinois Preps Bullseye w/ more on his performance.....

While he may not be the best guard in Illinois (at least right now) from the loaded class of 2011, we believe that Rock Island's 6'2 Chasson Randle is the most versatile. Randle ended up with 22 points in his team's loss to Waukegan and we would rank his performance at the Assembly Hall as the third best overall behind Richmond and Leonard. At the present time Randle is the only back court prospect from the 2011 class who has shown us that he can be equally adept at either guard spot, a very important factor to consider when it comes to evaluating that class. And by the way, we have every reason to believe that the Illini coaching staff would be more than happy to take both Randle and Mt. Carmel's Tracy Abrams when it comes to assessing their recruiting priorities in 2011

His comments about the experience at Assembly Hall courtesy of IlliniHQ
Quote:
Rock Island sophomore Chasson Randle has been on the UI's radar for some time. And he's in no hurry to make a decision.
"Right now I'm just enjoying it," he said.
Randle listed Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Bradley, Florida, Kansas, Iowa, Iowa State and Wake Forest as some of the schools he's considering. He's taken visits to Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Iowa State and Bradley and has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State and Bradley.
"I thank God for where I am now," Randle said.

Rock Island's Chasson Randle, who has a scholarship offer from Illinois, on playing in Champaign: "It was amazing, I loved it here. I got the feel for Assembly Hall and the fans and stuff like that so it was great."

Illinois received a commitment today from a 2011 point guard, Tracy Abrams. That should help our chances substantially w/ Randle if we decide to offer. Between Bradley and Randle it appears we have good, early, and realistic options at point guard for the '11 class.

I think Randle would be first preference for Bo considering that Bradley is a bit more how to say "showy" But he did take on Trevon and thats turned out pretty well so far.

Illinois likely has 6 scholarships to give in that class though, so taking another PG wouldn't be completely out of the question. Also, Chasson could probable continue to grow into a SG. Illinois would take both.
By the way, Chasson & his coach are going to be in Madison in a few days for the UW vs. Texas game on the 23rd.

I like our chances with Chasson unlike BB Bo can close on top prospects and he's been here quite a few times before right?

I don't dislike our chances. I just don't think that the committment of Abrams will have much of an affect on Chasson's view of the Illini....unless he is in love with the point and Abrams will for sure play point for that class.
Yeah, I believe he was with the group of Illinois Wolves players who visited.

Not that it makes a huge difference, but it will be a 5-boy class for Illinois, not 6. They have 9 players committed between '08-10', one of them being a JUCO.
The tables could be turned and we could be like Louisville in the Jerry Smith situation if Randle insists on playing point. At Wisconsin, the last true point we scored was Taylor in the '08 class. So he'd be nearly assured to 3 years of starting at Wisconsin unless he's simply not good enough and we'd have to resort to playing Blue or Taylor out of their ideal positions. Illinois couldn't give him the same assurance now that Abrams is now in the fold. Their fans are hyping him up quite a bit.

Chasson will be visiting Iowa on January 3rd when the Hawkeyes face Indiana(trying to make themselves look good lol)
Claims no leaders and could picture himself playing in the B11, SEC, or possibly the B12

Found an interesting post on the llinoisloyalty blog by Illiniwitit:
Quote:
Chasson is a scorer / lockdown defender! He is a deere. Quick, fast and very, very, smart! A slasher scorer that can also handle the rock and play some PG. The sophomore class for Rock Island is loaded. PG Royce Muskeyvalley will be a top 50 player, Jordan Hathorn is their pure shooter, and Braxton Sumpter (Barry Sumpter's kid: 6'11 F/C - Louisville/San Antonio Spurs/ CBA QC Thunder) is a 6'8 sophomore with enormous upside.
Not trying to rain on anyones parade, but here is some inside info. I'm a coach in the RI program. I talk to the guys 3/4 times a week. They all loved their visit at Wisconsin and talk of how cool Bo is, and I've heard Chasson will go to Kansas if they offer. Not sure where we stand now. I know Jay Price is always around. My take is It's Kansas, Wisky, ILL, and Marquette in that order as of now.

Rock Island sends message to rivals / QCTimes.com
Quote:
And on the other end of the floor, Randle and Pullman feasted.
With University of Iowa assistant LaVall Jordan looking on, Randle scored all 23 of his points in the first three quarters, but he provided more than offense to the Rocks’ attack. The 6-foot-2 sophomore also grabbed seven rebounds, had six assists and blocked a pair of shots.
“Randle did a lot of things for us,” Rock Island coach Thom Sigel said. “He’s making strides as a player. He’s a sophomore who is learning what it’s takes to compete at this level.”
Smithers appreciated that, as well as the help that Randle received.
“Both he and their entire team are only getter better,’’ Smithers said. “They really look to be hitting their stride right now, unfortunately for the rest of us.”
