Darnell is being pursued seriously by Iowa St., Purdue, Wisconsin, Xavier, Kentucky, and DePaul. ISU and DePaul are the closest to offering. Iowa State is Harris' current favorite according to his AAU coach. Reasoning is he projects to small forward to them, the position he'll need to learn at his height if he desires to make the NBA. Could decide extremely early in order to focus on academics.

With no less than five players from the class of 2011 who could wind up playing at the next level, college recruiters already have been spotted at Hamilton games. Wisconsin assistant Howard Moore was among several college coaches in attendance at Craig, and more figure to make their way to the southside of Milwaukee to watch Hamilton this season.
Topping the list of potential collegiate prospects for Hamilton is Harris, a multi-skilled 6-foot-7 forward who just might be the state’s top prospect in the sophomore class.
“He’s a guard,” Diener said of Harris, who played on the varsity a year ago at Bay View. “He’s our best passer. He’s a tremendous passer. He might be the best passer I’ve ever had in terms of seeing the floor and making all the different little passes. Now his decision making isn’t where it needs to be, but in terms of the mechanics of passing, he’s just really, really good. He’s also very skilled for that size. We need to get some weight on him and some strength. Weight lifting will be very important with all of our guys.”

Got a chance to see Darnell last night in the vincent versus hamilton game.
-My first impression of Darnell resonates what Diener thought about him, that being that he is definitely a guard or a wing.
-He has a tremendous stroke and touch from the perimeter, and is able to get his shot off on anybody given his height and length, he also has great form on his shot indicating that his three straight deep threes last night were not a fluke.
-He is very long and very athletic- great timing on weak side help, blocks. and has great footwork both on the offensive end and defensive end.
-Very strong rebounder, who uses position, height and leaping ability to control the glass.
-Good court awareness and vision.
-Plays with nice passion and determination
-Only weaknesses i saw was that his handle is pretty shaky and he appears to be slightly uncomfortable with his body, i.e. coordination with the ball, due to his immense height at such a young age... i think this will be corrected as he grows into his body.
Overall- should definitely be a target of the badgers and undoubtedly has the look of a future big time player in a major conference.

Very insightful write-up, BW4Life.
Previously I believed him to be a power forward like the title of this thread stated, and we had already secured a power forward for this class, so your post opened my eyes to him still being a legit possibility for us. Especially if he possesses the talent you illustrate.
OK, one part I'd appreciate if you'd expound on though. When he lost the basketball off the dribble, was it because he'd run into the path of players with nowhere to go, or he'd react to the defense and slide across defenders only to lose the handle. Because I think one is A LOT more projectible to improvement over the other.
BTW, Harris scored 12 points in the ballgame and Elgin Cook 11.

In response to your inquiry about Harris's problems with his handle, to be honest id have to say its a little bit of both of the scenarios you presented...although my observation that his handle was weak was derived from the fact that towards the end of the game vincent pressed for most of the 4th quarter and while generally hamilton's extremely gifted point guard charles lee- i believe that is his name- was able to break the press by himself, however on a few occasions he had to pass it to Harris due to a double team, forcing Harris to bring the ball up and it was on these occasions his lack of a handle was exposed....he simply did not appear comfortable with the ball and would pick up his dribble while dribbling up the court after about 5 dribbles... he also had trouble keeping his head up while attempting to break the press and appeared more concerned with not losing the handle than finding an open teammate. However on the bright side his handle appeared suffice while driving to the basket, although he did not do this much and his immense height and length certainly helped, he was able to take a couple hard dribbles and get into the middle of the lane on a few occasions.
- in regards to cook scoring 11 and harris scoring only 12, harris did most of his damage in the first half and while the game was on the line... vincent opened a large lead at the start of the game only to have hamilton come racing back behind 3 straight deep contested threes by Harris. Similarly in the second half when it was still close, harris made a strong move and got fouled making 1 of 2 and then hit a really nice spinning baseling fadeaway jumper....similarly i believe harris went 3/4 on 3pt's and 1/2 or 1/3 on 2pt attempts and then 1/2 from the line, making him overall about 4/7 from the floor and 1/2 from the line... this was due to the fact that he consistently looked to get others involved and did not play selfishly despite being obviously more skilled than his other teammates. Cook on the other hand i believe got 9 of his eleven points in garbage time on breakdown layups(which he had a great amount of difficulty finishing, i believe he missed 3 straight) and free throws at the end, where he once again struggled. so despite scoring 11 pts id say maybe 2 to 4 of those points came when the game mattered...in addition he easily attempted more fg's than darnell and id guess he ended up shooting at least 10-12 times. i feel like i have painted a very negative picture of cook over my last two posts about him, but i really jut wasnt that impressed, although this is not to say that he merely had an off game and will not improved dramatically over the next couple years, he does have a D1 body and athleticism.

No. 3-ranked Darnell Harris of Milwaukee Hamilton oozes with potential and, at 6-7, is a very good ball handler and passer. Harris is averaging 8.8 ppg for the upstart Wildcats.

A poster over on the scout board said that he talked to Darnell recently and Darnell said that he wants to decide soon and that Wisconsin and ISU are on top of his list.....
I think this kid sounds like a Jamil Wilson clone

DARNELL HARRIS 6’8 FORWARD – DTA D-HARRIS SUPERSTARS
Combo forward with an intriguing combination of size and skill, Harris continues to do the majority of his damage from the perimeter. Preferring to play the wing instead of the four, Harris remains a monster on the offensive glass, and will hopefully begin hanging around the lane a little more often. He runs the floor with the best of them and is certainly one of the best looking 2011 prospects in the gym.

BOC Week 5 Top Performers Recap
M.V.P. - 2011 F Darnell Harris (Knicks)
When it comes to working hard week in and week out and putting in a solid effort to improve, Harris has done that consistently after a slow start this fall and it paid off with a big time performance this past weekend. Normally we try and give the weekly M.V.P. honors to someone from a team that won so as not to lose sight of how important the team is but Harris's performance was significantly superior to anyone else this past weekend so he gets the nod. Not only was he efficient as he was 9 of 17 from the field, but the key was he has really stepped up his floor impact and this past weekend he collected 14 rebounds, kicked out 5 assists, blocked a shot, and grabbed 2 steals. That's something we stress day after day in the BOC is one's ability to contribute without the basketball and Harris has made arguably the biggest strides this fall in that regard. Exceptional performance this past weekend for the talented forward.
