Wouldn't it be great if Jamil Wilson told Bo he wants to come to Wisconsin, but they agreed to wait until March 8th next year to announce it so he could honor his mother? I would really hate to both lose that talent AND give it to Marquette because Bo couldn't wait it out.

But if it has to happen this way I can't say I'd be too disappointed with Evans. Just pure guessing on this one, but what do you say are the odds that he walks on with the promise of a scholarship his sophomore year if Gullikson doesn't get his schollie yanked?

This guy is one of the most visable high school players in Arizona, yet his recruitment has been light, with virtually no attention coming from the Pac 10. There probably is a good reason for that, and I highly doubt we would burn a 09 scholly on him.

I know the odds are about 0% of him walking on with a promise of a later scholarship. That just doesn't happen, esp with a scholly available in 08.

So Gullikson's scholarship has officially been pulled? I haven't seen that anywhere.

When did we ever give the 2008 scholly to Gullickson? Schollies are on a one year basis, especially true with walk-ons. Tanner's got "pulled", if you want to call it that, and I bet Cain isn't banking on his being renewed either.

I don't think we're looking at this the same way. Bo has had two years to give Gullikson's scholarship to a new recruit. He hasn't, so I have to believe that Bo gave Gullikson a three-year scholarship after his freshman year (yes, technically schollies are one-year renewable deals, but in reality they're usually a de facto four-year deal). You said that there's an available scholarship for next year. Maybe you're not counting Gullikson as a returning scholarship player. But because Bo didn't sign a five-man class on signing day I have to assume that he is. That's unless his punishment for underage drinking ticket #3 is losing his scholarship.

Tanner and Mo Cain got one-year deals because they weren't going to play significant minutes. Gullikson did in order to earn his, and he's had his for more than a year. That plus the (presumable) desicion to not renew his happened mid-season is why I would say his got "pulled" (if in fact it has).

Short way of saying all that: You think he's on a year-to-year scholarship basis. I consider him to be one of the players with a de facto schollie until their eligibility expires. Am I right?

This is true.

There's more realistically a hole on our roster in 2008, not 2009. If we're taking someone for next year, it's because he's too good to resist, and we think he can help us immediately to fill our hole in 2008. Someone like that, be it Evans or whoever, wouldn't be coming to Wisconsin on a 3 year scholarship anyways. The primary lure of taking another recruit in 2008 is because he'll be another scholarship worthy player available for that year. Otherwise, we have too many options and time for 2009 not to just bank the scholarship.

Rivals $

3/26

Evans will make a decision within the next few weeks, is tight-lipped about what that decision will be, but rumours are he'll walk on at Wisconsin.

Wow. When was the last time the Badgers had a walk on that had a good shot at contributing? I would say Gullikson contributed, but he was forced into contributing and taking on a bigger role than he could handle because of the Landry/Stiemsma-less semester.

Is it possible that Pomlee may walk on as well? That would certainly be one heck of a class. And if Bo got both I guess we would have to say goodbye to Wquinton.

What's really starting to concern me about potentially signing Evans is his lack of perimeter shooting ability. He shoots 30 percent from 3, and I think he achieved those results somewhat selectively. I'd rather have a guy like Rodney Williams who shoots around 30 percent, but does so trying to take over games, probably taking a lot of forced shots. Bo could reduce his bad habits through practice, causing his jumper to be more efficient. Evans' performance only translates to an even less efficient shooter at the next level when he's going to get his shot altered more against superior length. I have visions of Krabbenhoft shooting dancing in my head when looking at his percentage. I just hope he has Krabbe's intangibles. Still, I think we'll be complain about our overall team outside shooting in the near future.

Krabby was considered a great scorer in HS, so maybe Evans could be the anti-Joe and surprise people with his shooting rather than disappoint. I like the idea of Evans walking-on as a preferred "safety net" for losing Wilson, with the opportunity to earn a scholarship down the line. He sounds like a decent player, plus UW would have the flexibility to still sign someone else for '09 if they wanted with no promises made to Evans.

As for outside shooting, next season's team will have J-Bo, Leuer, Hughes and Landry as "known threats" from deep. D.Taylor is probably the best-regarded shooter of those who haven't hit campus yet, but Jarmusz, J.Taylor and R.Wilson can all develop into great shooters if they put the work in.

I like the idea too of compelling him to come here as a walk-on with a promise of at least a scholarship in his first year, and his future status depends on his performance on the court and ours in recruiting. I don't know if that would be more appealing than a mid major offer or not. His parents seem financially comfortable, and I think his father is alum (?), so that would hypothetically aid in the possibility of landing him on a non full scholarship. It appears he's arriving on full scholarship though.

Visa vie Krabbenhoft, I don't know if I'd consider 20 points per in South Dakota, a great scorer. If I recall correctly he was a good ball handler and was the point forward for his team. His foot problems have also possibly made his stroke very awkward, because he can't leap with any fluidity. I can see more reasons why shooting/scoring ability would diminish in college as opposed emerge.

I'm not really worried about the outside shooting of next year's squad. More so, I'm concerned about when the '08 and '09'ers are seniors.

W. is already off the team when Evans is officially added as we are currently at the max of 16 (not counting evans):

Four players using up eligibility: MF, BB, TB, & GS
Four players added to the team: JT, JB, IM, & RW

So one of the walkons has to go (Cain, Valentyn, W). I don't think Pomlee is an option at this point.

I certainly agree ... just wishful thinking here. I'm remembering how well-regarded Krabby was on the AAU circuit as well. Either way, I've expected more of him offensively, as I think we all have.

I thought he'd at least be on par scoring wise with Flowers, Butch, Landry, etc. So needless to say I'm disappointed too about that aspect of the game. Arguably the biggest X-factor next season will be his ability to be more assertive and shoot with confidence outside. Maybe he needs to talk to Stiemer about how he developed a set shot after blowing out his knee.
