Statistics: 9 sacks, 8 TFL's, 2 blocked kicks
Interest From: UCONN (offered), Wisconsin, Miami, Florida St., Central Florida
Looks like a pretty impressive player on film. Very quick off the edge. Good footwork and reactions. Plays bigger than his 210 frame in both finishing tackles and holding his position on the point of attack on running plays. Showed excellent effort and top speed in running a receiver down from behind to save a touchdown. Only real negative is; can he gain enough weight to be a reasonable option at DE at the next level? Already looks pretty filled out and has about 35 pounds of development to go.

By the way, that was my evaluation of Gilbert in GoRU's original post.
It looks like Gilbert is starting to make some noise as I expected. He was reportedly one of the two most unblockable DE's at this weekend's Miami Nike Camp.
According to Rivals Recruiting Analyst Barry Every, "I also like David Gilbert. He has unbelievable character and unbelievable body structure and he hasn't even hit the tip of the iceberg yet as far as his potential".

Holds just shy of 20 offers, but doesn't seem satisfied with his current list. Wants offers from USC and WVU, and thinks WVU is close to offering.

"(The University of Minnesota) didn't really compare," UW Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff said. "I loved the atmosphere here. It was pretty easy to cross (Minnesota) off the list. I wanted to play at the highest level possible but I also wanted to have that college atmosphere."

Florida DE A USC Target
By Phil Kornblut
USC is one of many offers for DE David Gilbert (6-4 215) of Oakland Park, FL, and it's a former Gamecock standout that has captured Gilbert's imagination. "They said I run like John Abraham," Gilbert said. "He's my favorite defensive player in the entire world. He's just so fast." Gilbert said he gets plenty of mail from USC recruiter Robert Gillespie, and he said he calls the Gamecock assistant on a regular basis. "I'm looking for where I can play early," Gilbert said. "I'll also be looking for the academics I want to study and how well I get along with the players." Gilbert has not visited any schools this summer nor has he been to any camps. He does not have any favorites. His other offers are Louisville, Pittsburgh, Florida International, Minnesota, Purdue, Iowa State, Vanderbilt, Connecticut, Central Florida, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Marshall, Indiana, Arkansas State and Florida Atlantic. He's also getting interest from Miami. In seven games last season, Gilbert 57 tackles with nine sacks and eight tackles for loss.

Wow....he is coming to Wisconsin for the Ohio State game. A lot of our current commits are coming to that game as well.
Man, it's a night game, still good weather.....if we win that game, we would be sitting pretty with Gilbert I would bet. Unless, of course, distance is the main factor.....UCF.

If it's anything like the atmosphere and the outcome of our '03 tilt it would be tremendously influencing to Gilbert and any other recruit.

Are you enrolled there already? I thought you talked about possibly going to UW. If you're a student that would help immensely of course.
