It can be easier. It's just hard to meet their standards out of high school when unless you had a ton of extra curriculars, they expect you to be near perfect in every class. Almost inevitably you'll have one weaker subject and a hiccup here and there during a 4-year schedule. In college you can be more selective about the classes you take, so that can hide one weakness if you have one (science for me), and I think they may even give you an auto transfer from a UW-extension if your GPA was 2-2.5, although mine was significantly better than that.

It's much easier to transfer in from a smaller UW school after freshman year. As long as you maintain a freshman year gpa of 3.0 or better, you will get in. I have a few friends who did that and transferred in from UW-Lacrosse.

I was thinking of maybe UW-Whtewater or UW-Lacrosse, both are pretty good schools I think.

Defensive end David Gilbert (Oakland Park, Fla./Northeast) is down to a final three. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder, who plans to graduate in December, hopes to visit Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Central Florida and then make a decision from there.
The Commodores, off to a 3-0 start this season, have impressed Gilbert.
"Vanderbilt is in because it's a private university and it's well-known as far as academics," Gilbert said. "If I get a degree from there, I will never be out of work. Plus, with them being in the SEC, that's a lot of exposure I can get and I will have a great chance to get to the NFL if I can."
He sees early playing time at Kentucky.
"They play good football and they are not afraid to play freshman," Gilbert said. "I have a good chance to develop coming in early for an SEC school that wanted me from the beginning."
An unofficial visit to Central Florida has the Golden Knights in the thick of things.
"I visited there unofficially and I fit in with the players," he said.
Gilbert added that he plans to make his official visits in October.

Is he being recruited as a LB or DE, we have alot of players on the D-line with serious intrest (Drummond, Graham, Carradine, Curtis all at DE, and Muldon,Buckner, and Davis all at DT) Cant say the same about LB and Goru also said that his frame looks like its mostly filled out. So I wonder where he falls in.

Talk about an unpredictable recruiting year. I was near placing Gilbert in the inactive recruit category because two weeks ago he was glorifying SEC football, said he was averse to the cold, and didn't have the Badgers in his top 5 even. Now the only thing that would stop him from coming to Wisconsin is an offer from arguably the best program in the nation. Wow!
We've made huge comebacks with several recruits like Gilbert, Muldoon, Keenan Graham, and Frankie Davis. What's the common denominator? They all project as front seven players, an area where we'll have 5 players graduating. Our impending void must be a huge selling point to recruits. Bielema reported that the staff was out on the recruiting trail during the week off and it must have made a huge difference with a guy like Gilbert. Dumping Virginia Tech was not without a positive byproduct at least.
Troy, if you refer to the first post in the thread, I've always been high on Gilbert. And recruiting services like Rivals joined me after evaluating his video. It's not as if Gilbert is a slow play type recruit. He's a potential stud in his own right. But you can take solace in the fact that the Badgers are recruiting him at outside linebacker, not defense end. IMO, he'll end up at defensive end, or at the very least be a hybrid ala Suggs, Woodley, Tuck, etc.; however that won't prevent us from securing the top D-linemen you covet.

I was just curious I was always curious about his and Grahams position, being that they are both very light right now. I am really psyched about this class if we can land....
Vlad Emillen
2 or 3 of Gilbert/Graham/Curtis/Carradine/Drummond
Davis
Buckner/Muldon
1 or 2 of Mack/Allen/Blunt/Goodlow(maybe?)
Apparently King(who is pretty much qualify and get an offer) and Dippel who I imagine is going too commit soon.
I would be really happy

I don't think we can take that many more front seven prospects......but it's a good problem to have. Usually we have the opposite problem where we're wondering who can appear from nowhere to fill a few remaining spots. I'm sure things will even out a bit because some interest is legitimate but others is just a facade. Just being a realist, I doubt we're going to be beating off stud prospects with a stick, but we should snag a few unless the team implodes this season.

David Gilbert Close to Deciding | soflafootball.com
9/24
Says it's a close race if Florida offers this weekend, but he probably would still choose Wisconsin.

Good news. If he sticks to his plan to visit for the OSU game, then I would assume things to be nearly wrapped up here.
However, he has been hard to follow throughout the recruiting process, changing his favorites quite a few times.

Good point. Until he signs on the dotted line I'd consider our status with him at least a bit tenuous because the factors important to him and favorite schools have changed quite frequently. You never know how influenced he could be by Urban Meyer and the atmosphere in Gainesville this weekend. He did an about face in regards to Wisconsin, following Partridge's personal appearance at his school last Friday.
Troy, I would not consider him a silent verbal. He hasn't made any promises that he'd be reneging yet.
