Looks like he might be getting more comfortable

To the best of my knowledge he had 47-231 and 1 TD through 3 games before this breakout, including 100+ in week 3. Hopefully he can continue to build momentum

Smith Named Offensive MVP

By Chris Pool
B.N. Recruiting
Posted Oct 25, 2007

Quote:
Erik Smith, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound, running back, from Bolingbrook, Ill., was one of Wisconsin’s first but lesser known verbal commitments.

Smith didn’t bring the junior accolades that other prospects brought to the table because he backed up All-American Dale Martin in 2006.

Some members of the media questioned Smith for receiving early scholarship offers and some went as far as to criticize the schools for offering a scholarship to an unproven prospect.

Smith answered the critics with his play on the field this year. The Raiders have a ton of offensive fire-power, Smith only played a little over half the offensive plays in 80% of games this year and missed one game due to having his wisdom teeth extracted.

Smith led the Raiders to a 7-2 record. He rushed for 1,089 yards and scored eight touchdowns. In the last three regular season games, Smith rushed for 230, 180 and in the conference championship had 190 yards rushing on 23 attempts.........

Super(b) back
Erik Smith takes the 'Brook to new heights

October 24, 2007
The Herald News

Quote:
Twenty five years ago, Jim Croce penned the enduring phrase, "You don't tug on Superman's cape." Twenty-five years later, Bolingbrook High School senior Erik Smith entered the 2007 season as the Raiders' superback, the spotlight position in the Raiders' spread offense.
To him, it is more than a "S" on the chest. "You have to earn your cape," Smith said. "You have to be able to hold it, and the position entails you to be able to go out there and make plays when your time is called upon. When you step into that role, you have to be ready to do whatever it takes for the team to win.".......

I like that he won conference MVP and all that, but they are exaggerating about his performance. 7 yards per carry and barely over 1,000 yards isn't awe-inspiring for a high school back....especially one in that program. I like the comments about his performance and the fact he improved though. He looks leaner than his other picutres which is also a positive.

To begin the season he had several lack luster performances, in fact I think it took until the third or fourth week for him to break 100 yards in a game. I agree with you on the fact that he finished the season strong, and I no longer think that we reached with this one. He should be at least an adequate backup, if not a potential change of pace guy.

Smith paves way for Bolingbrook :: REGIONAL SPORTS :: High School Sports :: Illinois :: Indiana :: Sun-Times News Group

By Phil Brozynski

Bolingbrook’s 6-foot-4, 370-pound offensive lineman Jordan Dillingham would not repeat what was said in the Raiders’ locker room at halftime of their Class 8A playoff opener Saturday against visiting Lincoln-Way Central.

Whatever it was, it was effective.

‘‘What was said is not suitable for families,’’ Dillingham said. ‘‘But the coaches lit a fire under us.’’

Running back Eric Smith scored on runs of 45 and 49 yards as Bolingbrook (8-2) scored on its first two possessions of the third quarter to break open a mistake-plagued four-point game and coast to a 31-3 victory.
