By C. Pool at the Wisky site. Kemp says he had a great time on his official visit to Wisconsin this past weekend. He got a chance to talk up Wisconsin to several recruits on his visit, including Jon Major.

TOP WR PROSPECT TO VISIT TIGERS OFFICIALLY

Quote:
As the Missouri Tigers continue to have great success on the football field this season, that success seems to be translating off the field with more success in recruiting and with renewed interest from top in-state players who have already committed elsewhere.
North County LB and current Nebraska commit Will Compton made an unofficial visit a few weeks ago and Parkway West QB and current Nebraska commit Blaine Gabbert made an unofficial this past weekend and is re-considering the Tigers as a possible option to play his college football.
Also making an unofficial visit this past weekend was DeSmet WR and top 3 prospect overall in the state, Wes Kemp. The 6`4" 224lb Kemp gave a verbal to Wisconsin over the summer but is taking a second look at the Tigers who continue to recruit him.
I asked Wes today about his recent visit, whether the Tigers were still recruiting him, his thoughts about the Tigers and if he was reconsidering them.
" Yes, Mizzou is still recruiting me and I will take an official visit to Mizzou." said Kemp, who hung out with Blaine Gabbert at the game along with Tiger commits Andrew Jones, Drew Temple, Taylor Davis and London Davis. "The game was great. The Tigers are really on the up and up and their offense is appealing to receivers and running backs."
Kemp has averaged over 21 yards per catch this season on 28 receptions for 577 yards and 7 TDs. He had over 1,800 yards receiving as a sophomore and junior.
We will keep you updated on this developing situation with Wes Kemp`s recruitment.
If he is going to consider other schools, it should be reciprocal and we can consider other players. I'm not saying antagonistically make that statement to him, but he's got to understand we need to protect against losing a player near the end and having few other options. We got a little too captivated with specific players that we under-recruited positions. Decommits would give us an opportunity to rectify that mistake. Don't misunderstand that Kemp would be a player I'd like to see depart, but it wouldn't be the end of the world either.

I'm concerned about Missouri, but not really the Hawkeyes at all. The Hawkeyes have little to offer that the Badgers couldn't. While Mizzou is the home school and they play a very attractive style offensively. They are a substantial danger. BTW, Missouri's resurgence is a threat to Wisconsin on a grander scale too. We've really exploited their inadequacy over the years.

To be honest and fair, if he is worried about how schools do against top programs, how can he consider Mizzou? They had one game against a top program (OU) and lost, and unless you consider Kansas a top school they have none remaining on their schedule. Us, on the other hand, will lay the pipe to Michigan in a few weeks. That should get his attention. I hope Kemp's word is plenty reliable. He seemed in love after the Iowa game, and plus there is no way he will be coached by anyone better than Mason.

I don't recall Kemp saying performance against top programs this season was of ultra importance to him. All I remember is his preference to be perennially in the top 25. In all fairness, Missouri beat Illinois (who we lost to) and easily dusted a off a ranked opponent in Texas Tech. I was impressed with them even in their competitive loss to Oklahoma. Like he said, they seem like a program that's genuinely seeing their level elevate for the long term. Their offensive style is difficult to contain.

I don't know how it's inherently positive for the Badgers to have elite schools remaining on our schedule. It means nothing unless we are victorious. I like your confidence that we'll lay the lumber to Michigan, but I don't understand where it derives from.

I do agree though about your implication that Kansas isn't a top program. Jabba the Hut and company are beating more cupcakes than he can eat in one sitting.

I think you might be thinking of Keanon Cooper? Kemp says that success "comes and goes." I think he's of the belief right now that Mizzou's success is coming and he could be apart of that. It's his home-state school and I don't think it has much to do with the state of our program so much.

In all honesty, I think all three of Gabbert, Ford, and Kemp end up in Mizzou with their buds Jones and Steeples. Gabbert has already decommitted and will be visiting Mizzou again shortly. Kemp was there this past weekend with him. Ford has been on the fence for a while now. It sounds like Will Compton (another Nebraska commit and Mizzou native) might be heading back their too.

Hope I'm wrong. I'd much rather see Ford come here to join Kemp.

I agree with everything you said. I thought Heavy was confusing Cooper with Kemp. Missouri is starting to scare me. They might be a sleeping giant and they'd further constrict our regional recruiting base if they're awoken.
