Two parts I liked/found funny from that:

Quote:
It's fun to watch Jay Valai try not to crush people in practice. You can tell it's killing him. Valai had a pretty good hit on Anderson and pulled up just before contact several times.
Quote:
...linebacker Chris Borland, who is really making a name for himself during camp. Borland rocked tight end Zach Davison during team drills and also recovered a fumble.
Davison getting rocked? No.... Haven't heard his name in a positive manner yet since he joined the team

Wisconsin's Valai aims for 'controlled violence' - Big Ten - ESPN

8/19/09

Quote:
He led the team in forced fumbles (3) in 2008 and knocked out four players from games. Valai also led Badgers defensive backs with 56 tackles (35 solo).
"He thinks he's Brian Dawkins," cornerback Aaron Henry said. "With Jay being so small and compact, he can hit somebody and it'll seem like a bullet hit 'em."

Looks like BB is taking a page out of Coach Boone's playbook from remember the Titans.

Breakout O - Lance Kendricks

Breakout D - J.J. Watt

Offensive MVP - Johnny Clay (Carimi will be the best IMO, but a single RB has more of an impact than a single offensive lineman....those guys play more as a unit where they're only as good as their worst player)

Defensive MVP - Aaron Henry

Top Frosh - Mike Taylor (if health allows, otherwise Phillips)

The amount of key players who are from in state could be a major X-Factor for this year's squad. Among them are sure to be Carimi, Clay, Kendricks, Toon, Watt, Maragos, Oglesby, Bscherer, Butrym, Nzegwu, Ewing, Taylor, and Nortman. Zeitler and/or Frederick could be added if one of the interior OL's falter or are felled by injury. Back when UW won back to back Rose Bowls, the passion for the program of a heavy Wisconsinite-laden group was a primary reason. Hopefully the same goes for this season.

For those who havent seen it, they had the studio show at UW's practices on last night. Picks from the studio were:

Best Freshman:
Gerry DiNardo: David Gilbert
Howard Griffith: Kraig Appleton
(although they both also liked Ball)

Best "under the raday guy"

DiNardo: Stehle
HG: Oglesby

Other observations:

-Griffith also said he though Henry might be the best CB in the conference.
-Dinardo wouldnt stop talking about how much for physical the front 7 were compared to last year
-everyone liked what they saw of Toon
-no clue about the QB still

And the winner in the QB race is...Tolzien (according to yours truly) - JSOnline

Potrykus calling Tolzien the winner of the QB battle

Quote:
But after watching practice today I'm willing to go out on a not-so-shaky limb and say that junior Scott Tolzien has won the job over Curt Phillips and Dustin Sherer with a solid overall performance in camp.

I dont really know how to feel about this from all accounts ST is the best passer and the most consistent, but with Phillips he gives you that X factor with his legs, but his passing is extremely inconsistent.

which means you dont have to worry about his passing, thus only needing man coverage and putting everyone else in the box taking away his running.

I guess I'm ok with it as long as it gives us the best chance to win. Curt will see the field anyway.
