Jean talks about what he likes about the Badgers. Mentions UW's presence in South Florida. Plans on camping at all of the Florida big three, and will definitely take an official to UW.

Also of note, UW wants him to play corner, not safety. Miami and Oregon might start getting in the picture here too...

Jean was at the prestigious Friday Night Lights event in Florida, and in spite not being one of the bigger names, he did stand out, being named to the "Hot 11". He was complimented for his consistency, instinct, and hips (handled double moves from talented receivers with ease).
Even if you possess a Rivals' account, and especially if you don't, you should check out his reel from SoFlaFootball, via youtube.
Jean is one of the hardest hitting CB's I've ever seen. He's just destroying kids. Dude has bad intentions. Burst, tackling form, and intensity remind me of Marquis Hundley, who played for Arizona this past year, and made a big impact against USC. Jean would also be intriguing as a free safety who can crack spread wide receivers in crossing routes, making them think twice over the middle. And then slide into coverage at times when there aren't enough cornerbacks on the field, and be perfectly solid at it because of his hips and ball skills. He appears surprisingly lean for 185.....but I definitely would be advising him not to gain much more weight with his frame.
UW seems to be recruiting a lot more players of close to college ready size for their position, than in the recent past. Supposedly Zagzebski is being projected to linebacker now at like 225, Herring to SSDE at 250, Gilbert to DT at 280, Mason to WR at 215, Ho Ching to LB at 225, Jean to CB at 185, etc. The switch in philosophy I imagine was created due to the changing of S&T coaches. Their new one stresses flexibility much more than the previous, who just wanted to jack players frames up as much as possible. That led to injuries, and it was just hard to project that players would maintain their athleticism after accumulating so much weight. I like the decision to switch.

Jean is considering CMU, and plans on visiting them. Will take all five officials, then have a timetable for a decision. Seems to prefer playing corner, and also likes zone coverage.

Jean’s Decision Coming Soon? | soflafootball.com
Quote:
Palm Beach Central defensive back Peniel Jean may have his mind made up on what school he is looking to attend by the time Halloween rolls around. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder has offers from Wisconsin, Maryland, Connecticut, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Buffalo, Marshall, Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State. “Probably right after the visits I’ll probably make up my mind a week after,” said Jean on his timeline to make a decision.
Jean has one visit scheduled right now and has two other schools he may want to see as well.
“I plan to make the visit up to Wisconsin the 16th (of October), and then I’m going to visit Maryland before that and maybe Connecticut before that,” explained Jean.
The reason for Jean getting the visits out of the way as early as possible is the fact Jean will be an early enrollee in January.
“Yes, I’m going to graduate early. I have only a couple more assignments and I’m going to be done.”
Jean also discussed what he is looking for when deciding on what school to attend.
“Basically a school that shows they really want me and academics. Location doesn’t really matter, I just want to compete. Competition doesn’t matter because there is competition everywhere you go and you’re going to have to compete anyways.”
Jean stated that Maryland and Wisconsin are looking at him to play cornerback, while the rest want him as a safety. Jean and his Palm Beach Central teammates open the season with their Kick-Off Classic against Northeast August 27.

After talking to Palm Beach Central DB last night, I get the feeling Wisconsin is the school to beat. They are the only school with a scheduled visit right now. He also wants them to be the last school he visits, and will decide shortly after his visits are over.

Don't take our tenuous future at cornerback out an innocent party.
The young cornerbacks on our team better all develop and pan out, because they're all we're going to have it appears. Too bad we didn't redshirt Devin Smith or Antonio Fenelus...we could end up regretting that decision.
I can never get too worried about the safety aspect of our secondary based on poor recruiting. Our amazing walk-on history at that position will always mitigate that, it seems we're only strong when at least one walk-on is part of the contingent. However, at cornerback we haven't had the same luxury. Zach Hampton and Ben Strickland were the best walk-on corners we've had recently, and they were nickle or dime fodder. Cornerback will probably be a position similar to what DT was to us the past few seasons.

I didn't really see this coming, but maybe he'll still visit Madison. I was dreading something like this with his visit scheduled so late in the season. I guess maybe the staff knew something and got Robert Clark on the horn, so to speak.

We have time at CB, since our three best players at the spot are sophs, so no need to freak out just yet. if we can recruit a contributor yet this cycle, and one of Cromartie/Southward pans out we should be OK. I would be thrilled if Robert Clark ended up here, and it would alleviate all of my concerns at the position. Safety I actually think we recruited well this cycle, I like both Tamakloe and Trotter. Where does Jamison Wright end up? Corner? I don't think anyone actually knows anything about him lol. X factor this cycle
And Bern, do you see any of the current walkons being able to contribute in secondary in the future?

That's always a tough call. Seems like close races where the recruit is determined to take all their visits you would rather be near or at the end. As you mentioned here is a case where it would have been better to be near the beginning. I would have thought he would have been sooner just because he's from Florida, keep him out of the cold

According to JWill does not have an Oregon offer, and thus the commitment was not taken. Back in play, I'll try and find a story on the situation.
