17. Vinnie Mauro, LB, 6-1, 215, St. Thomas Aquinas: After a brilliant junior season, this impressive prospects returns to give the defending national champions a player who is a sure tackler, has speed, drops into coverage and is as intense as you will find.

BTW, that blog is a decent resource...

Liked his visit to RU, however his top 3 is Navy, Vandy, and Wisconsin. Also has interest in Stanford.

Mauro visited Vanderbilt this past weekend and was enthralled by them. They closed the gap on Navy, and now it's a tie atop his list. But Mauro's not counting out Wisconsin, and wants to take a visit to Madison before deciding. Speaking of Wisconsin, Mauro was teammates with now Badger linebacker Conor O'Neill last season, but in spite of the age discrepancy, Scout analyst Geoffrey Vogt believed Vinnie was the better player in the core.

I agree with Vogt. In the two games I saw them play, Mauro was the more agressive LB. Although the reason he stuck out more was because he was more of a straight line player who rushed the line and blew up plays, where Oneil floated and attacked when the play developed.

He got a pretty early offer and I get the feeling we kind of cooled here a bit. With Ho Ching and Garner visiting Madison - I think the staff will play things close for another linebacker.

The problem may be that Vinnie and Konrad both will play the same position.

I'm still not fond of the idea of KZ playing LB, but lets just hope his knee is healed.

either am I, but the point still remains. I do think if Vinnie wanted to come to UW, they would make the room for him in order to maintain the pipeline.
