From the OSU site...latest offers are from West Virginia, Michigan and Duke...talks about his interest and contact with OSU...says he has the best relationship with the UC staff and also likes Kentucky because he was a UK fan growing up and has family there...says the offer from UM was the first contact he has had with them and he will seriously conisder the Wolverines.

Lakota West High junior TE Alex Smith said this morning, June 9, that he will reopen his recruiting process.
Smith (6-5, 250) committed to the University of Cincinnati a couple months ago, but with recent offers from LSU, North Carolina, Miami (Fla.) and others, he felt the need to open it up again to a few schools.
He has visited UC, Kentucky and Michigan, and plans to take more visits this summer.

Smith gave the Badgers a nice surprise by arriving in Madison today, and expressed he was having a great time, but was pressed for time and couldn't go into details until tomorrow. Presumably the Blitz will follow up with a more in depth article. In the interim things sounded really promising!

Kid is a stud! I would love this get, another quality player from Ohio. I still am not happy about the lack of Glenville recruits, but we are making up for it in other parts of the state.

This would be a huge get. Didn't see that visit coming at all, anyone know where he stands right now?

He is still looking around making sure his commitment to Cincy is right. Which could change by tomorrow hopefully.

Great situation for him at UW in a class that will likely only take one TE and an offense that loves the TE.

Scout.com: Smith's Recruitment Coming Into Focus
8/6
Favorites are UNC, Wisconsin, Michigan, Miami, LSU, Kentucky, and Cincy. Thought the atmosphere of Wisconsin's campus was unique and loved the way they use the tight ends. Returning on an official for the first game of the season. #1 TE for Michigan. Wants to make an early decision.
Honestly, reading between the lines it sounds like Wisconsin is his top school, and he may be intending on committing when he returns in September. Team performs well in the first game and the weather isn't unseasonably abysmal, I think this is where he winds up.

Tight end prospect Alex Smith reconsiders, gives Michigan a look | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Quote:
Despite the assurances offered, Smith remained skeptical about how prevalent a role the tight end will play in Michigan's new offense. Meanwhile, programs such as Wisconsin are touting the tight-end friendly aspects of their more traditional system. That was a definite point of emphasis during the Army/ ESPN Under Armour All-American's recent visit to Madison.
"It was great," Smith said. "I've been to a lot of different camps and it just sounds really different there. I got a good feel for it. They've got a great, great tight end program."
Michigan's best chance at dispelling what it contends is a common misconception about how it uses tight ends will come on the field this fall. Getting Smith back on campus so he can witness the increased productivity of the current tight end tandem of Kevin Koger and Martell Webb will be a major priority. Smith plans to oblige the request, but he plans to do the same for a few other programs as well.
"In no order I'm liking UNC (prior visit), Michigan (prior visit), Wisconsin (prior visit), Miami, LSU and Kentucky (prior visit)," he reported. "Two or three (will receive visits), for sure. I don't know how many I need to take because after going places, I know what they have to offer and there's no real need to go back. I still want to (make a commitment) pretty early (in the season). With Wisconsin, I'm pretty much scheduling an official. It is going to be their first game of the season. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be back (to Michigan). I'm positive I'll be back."

Scout.com: Smith Sets Things Straight
8/16
By Dave Berk. Alex says he just got back from a trip to Wisconsin which he really enjoyed...has narrowed down his lists of schools a lot and may schedule two or three schools for possible official visits...wants to see Miami (FL), LSU, maybe give Kentucky another look or a school like South Carolina. About one month away from a final decision.

"I've kind of narrowed it down more than it use to be," Smith said. "I have two that I like a lot, North Carolina and Wisconsin. I went to Wisconsin about three weeks ago. I loved it there. And I like North Carolina a lot. I like their tight ends coach."
There are other schools still very much in the picture as well.
"I got to check out Michigan, Kentucky, North Carolina State and Michigan State," Smith said. "And I'd like to make a trip down to LSU and Miami. Oregon wants me to make it up there. We'll see how it goes."
The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder, who has offers from all of the schools he mentioned, played wide receiver his sophomore season. He moved to tight end his junior year and caught 33 passes with six touchdowns.
When asked to name his top choices Smith said, "Cincinnati, then Wisconsin, then North Carolina, and Kentucky is in there too."
