Allen to visit Stanford this summer
May 20, 2009
by Bill Kurelic
Quote:
Defensive lineman Beau Allen (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) is considering a half dozen scholarship offers. The 6-foot-3, 295-pounder has been a varsity starter since his freshman season when he played nose guard.Allen played both nose guard and defensive end during his sophomore season. He played defensive tackle and fullback during his junior season and made 59 tackles, including three sacks. Allen had 11 tackles for loss and forced three fumbles.
He has scholarship offers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Stanford, Nebraska and Vanderbilt.
"I think a few other schools are close to offering, like maybe UCLA, Northwestern and Michigan State," Allen said. "I'm looking at all the schools that have offered."
Allen has already visited Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska.
"I want to head out to Stanford this summer," he said. "I want to see and evaluate all the schools that have offered. I'll narrow things down from there."
Allen has no plans to rush into a college selection. He won't take the recruiting process to signing day, but he wants to take his time and thoroughly investigate his options.
"I think I'll pull the trigger after my senior (football) season," Allen said. "I'm thinking I'll decide in late November or December. I'll definitely take official visits. I plan to take all five visits."

Performed well at Notre Dame's camp, and was offered afterwords. Says ND will make his first cut, which he wants to do after taking visits and before Sept. 1

Allen is looking to trim down his list. He plans on taking two more unofficials sometime this summer (UW and Minn.) and then taking all five officials. No timetable

"I have about twelve offers and I will narrow it down by September. I like schools like Miami, Wisconsin, Stanford, Notre Dame, Nebraska, UCLA those schools I definitely like." Allen said
Notre Dame Football Network
"I liked Notre Dame junior days a lot. They didn't have the defensive line coach there but I did really well. I like the history and the football they have there. I liked the coaches a lot when I was there and how marketable Notre Dame is. They televise all their games, that's cool" Allen said
Freshman Offer
"I liked Minnesota Junior Days," says Allen," I felt comfortable there with the coaching staff and that's important to me. Minnesota offered me when I was a freshman, so I had a lot of experience with them. I went to a couple of games last year for recruiting. I'm looking forward going this season to see how the Golphers play in their new stadium. I'm excited for that."
"I went to Junior Days at Nebraska it went really well," Allen said, "I met the coaches I got to know them a little bit. I talked to Coach Carl Pelini, J P (Papuchis) and Barney Cotton when I was there. Carl is a good guy he's really cool."
Oh, Those Fans
"I really like the football facilities at Nebraska and the stadium and I'm also a big fan of the fans. I haven't made any travel plans yet for the fall but they (Nebraska) are definitely in consideration." Allen added
"I like the history at UCLA. It's a California school they have a good program and I like the coaches there." Allen said
"I've been to Wisconsin last year for a game when they played Minnesota. I feel really good with their (Wisconsin) coaching staff. I like Camp Randall a lot and I like how Wisconsin is set up academically." Allen said
"I haven't decided if I want to stay in the Big 10 or not I will atke all five visits. All schools are equal." Allen said

Ha! Minnesota isn't listed as one of the schools he "definitely likes"....I thought they were the rumored favorite.

"I've definitely narrowed my list down," Allen said. "My top schools, in no particular order are Minnesota, Wisconsin, Stanford and Notre Dame. I plan to make official visits to all four."
When asked if his decision is down to those four, Allen said, "I'd kind of like to fill out that fifth spot. I would sort of like to take all five official visits. UCLA, Northwestern and Michigan State are the ones that could be the fifth school."

Top 4 are Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Stanford. Will visit each and hopes to set up a 5th.

Fifth visit will probably be one of Nebraska, UCLA, Michigan State and N'Western. Is excited to be attending Minnesota's stadium opener on the 12th.

High school football: Minnetonka gets past Fargo North | INFORUM | Fargo, ND
Quote:
Beau Allen, the 6-foot-3, 301-pound nose guard being recruited by a dozen NCAA Division I colleges, was done playing before halftime Friday night.
That’s how dominating Minnetonka (Minn.) was in its 38-6 high school football victory over Fargo North at the Fargodome.
“Wow,” said Fargo North head coach Kelly Kalina. “We knew what we were getting into. Unfortunatly, they have 85 players to our 35 and physically, we are just not at their level.”
Especially at Allen’s level. The fourth-ranked Minnesota high school football prospect, Allen is the anchor to a defensive line with five returning starters. He’s already had offers from the likes of Notre Dame, Nebraska, UCLA, Stanford, Minnesota, Colorado, Iowa, Iowa State and Wisconsin.
“He just dominated,” Kalina said. “And you can’t stay away from him because he lines up three inches from the ball. He just creates so much havoc.”

"My top four are still Wisconsin, Minnesota, Notre Dame and Stanford," Allen said. "Michigan recently offered me. I think I'll give them a look. It's Michigan, Michigan State and UCLA for the last visit."

Allen talks about his visit to Wisconsin. Seems like a really level headed guy. Liked everything he mentioned, but didn't use any sort of "blown away" language, but that seems to be his persona. His parents actually both went to UW, his uncle played football here, and his Grandfather is on the wall for his swimming accomplishments. Lots of connections will visit Notre Dame, no other officials lined up

Will choose between Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Stanford and Minnesota. Still needs to visit Stanford and Minnesota. Wants to wait things out to see if there are any coaching changes.

Louis Nix, a DT prospect switched his commitment from Miami to Notre Dame today. Could be good news for WI to land Allen.
