JJHuddle.com - Steubenville LB Busick Picks Up First Official Scholarship Offer
Quote:
Steubenville junior linebacker Branko Busick received his first official offer last week and he’s excited to finally see the offer come.
"West Virginia officially offered me," said Busick. "I was really excited about that and I still am. I was a little nervous that I hadn’t gotten one yet but now I feel great. I owe so much to my coaches, my family and mom and my dad for helping me to get that offer. I’ve been working hard and it’s paying off."
As a result, West Virginia quickly leap-frogged up his list of favorite schools. In fact, he’s so impressed with West Virginia and new head coach Bill Stewart that he could verbally commit to the Mountaineers soon.
"They’re number two on my list," said Busick, the son of a former pro wrestler Nick Busic. "I really like the program up there. I actually received handwritten letters from all of the coaches. They wrote them individually and that got my attention. They have a lot going on there. I really like West Virginia and time-wise, I should be making my decision soon. If I got an offer from Penn State, then I’d have to sit down and talk about it with my family."
Busick (6-2, 225) rounds out his top five schools as Penn State, West Virginia, Miami (Fla.), LSU, Illinois and Pittsburgh.
He took a moment to talk about the No. 1 school on his list, Penn State, where he had recently attended their junior day.
"Penn State went very well," Busick, who finished third in the state wrestling tournament in the 215-pound class, explained. "The first day me, my mom and my brother went to see the wrestling coach and saw all their facilities. It’s beautiful up there. Then the second day, I had the chance to tour the campus and talk to the (football) coaches and really find out what Penn State is all about. I think Penn State fits me. They’re pretty tough when it comes to linebackers."
Busick reports a 3.0 grade point average and a 23 on the ACT.

Bucknuts.com - Steubenville Linebacker Selects West Virginia
Quote:
Steubenville linebacker Branko Busick (6-2, 228) verbally committed to West Virginia earlier this afternoon. On a trip to the Morgantown campus today, he met in head coach Bill Stewart’s office for about 25 minutes and at the end of the meeting, Busick gave his word to play for the Mountaineers.
“He’s got big plans for me,” Busick said. “He wants me to play in the middle linebacker position. I looked over my dad and he gave me the nod and I verbally committed. I told the coach that once I verbally commit, that’s it. I won’t go back on my word.”
Busick took a moment and talked about what drew him to West Virginia and why he committed right now.
“I’m really excited about West Virginia,” said Busick. “They were one of my favorite schools. When I went up there today it just fit and it’s like I already know the coaches. Plus, I’m going to have (current Mountaineer linebacker) Zac Cooper to help me for next year. We grew up together. And the coaches had me so fired up.”
As happy as he is, Busick wanted to make sure he passed thanks to the people that helped him get the offer and with his verbal commitment.
“I want to thank all those people that helped me get the offer,” Busick, who also had Penn State high on his list of college possibilities, said. “I want to thank (Steubenville head) coach Reno (Saccoccia) and everyone with Big Red, my family and the coaches at West Virginia for having faith in me. This is a great day.”
Between now and the time he shows up in Morgantown that he will continue work to improve his game.
“There’s a camp up there on campus that I’m going to go to,” said Busick. “Aside from that, I’m just going to train to get better.”
