DailyProgress.com | Top MD tailback commits to Cavs
Quote:
Virginia has continued its early success in football recruiting, landing its third commitment for 2009 late Tuesday.
Caleb Porzel, a 5-foot-9, 170-pounder from Good Counsel High in Maryland, informed the coaching staff of his decision just days after visiting UVa for the program's annual Junior Day.
Porzel was the leading tailback as junior for Good Counsel High School in Maryland, but given the two previous commitments, both of which were running backs, he was told he will be slotted on offense as a wideout. Prozel, boasting 4.32 speed in the 40-yard dash, could make a bigger impact, especially initially, on special teams.
As a junior, Porzel netted 955 rushing yards and scored 18 touchdowns. One of his scores came on a 95-yard kickoff return in the state playoffs. He also averaged 8.9 yards per carry despite splitting carries with Jelani Jenkins, a four-star prospect that is being recruited as a linebacker by the Cavaliers.
Porzel picked UVa over offers from West Virginia and Pittsburgh.

Two Top Backs on One Team - Josh Barr's Recruiting Insider
Quote:
As for Porzel, Milloy said that he visited Maryland and then Virginia and that the second visit "just knocked his socks off." Porzel, Milloy and Good Counsel assistant Kevin McFadden discussed the player's options afte the trip and then -- unbeknowst to the coaches -- Porzel went ahead and committed to Virginia.
"This year, Bryan Murray and Cory Boatman both lost scholarships by not committing right away," Milloy said. "Bryan got his back, to Boston College, but Cory lost his to Rutgers. I know that was weighing [on Porzel]. He liked Virginia. It was by far the best school that offered him except Maryland."

Spotlight on Good Counsel RB Caleb Porzel - Josh Barr's Recruiting Insider
Quote:
|
This week's Recruiting Spotlight features Good Counsel junior Caleb Porzel sitting down with reporter B.J. Koubaroulis. Porzel, a 5-foot-8, 180-pound running back, has clocked a 4.32-second 40-yard dash. He used that speed to rush for 976 yards and 16 touchdowns, also finding the end zone on a kick-off return and punt return as a special teams standout for the No. 8 Falcons (10-2, 6-1 WCAC) this fall. Porzel verbally committed to Virginia during a visit to Charlottesville in March, but then changed his mind and has reopened his recruitment, fielding offers from West Virginia, Maryland, Syracuse, Richmond and Hofstra.
