Fullington Commits to Washington State : Top Stories : Kitsap Sun

Quote:
North Mason junior John Fullington announced Tuesday he has verbally committed to play football for Washington State.

"They offered me about three weeks ago," said Fullington, who on advice of his dad, Mark, took some time to think about it and decided Monday to accept coach Paul Wullf's offer.

Fullington said his maternal grandparents live in Pullman and he has an uncle in Spokane. Fullington said he liked the campus and the atmosphere of Pullman.

"I think I will fit in well there. I'm excited," said the 6-foot-6, 271-pound Fullington. "I got family there, I love the coaches. I love how they recruit on character. They are nice people.

"My grandparents have been Cougars for ever."

There is a split in the family, however. The grandparents on the Fullington side graduated from Washington and are die-hard Huskies.

"But, like my grandmother just said, they got Cougar sweatshirts," Fullington laughed. "For five years, they said they will be Cougars."

Fullington, whose dad played football for Weber State, said he would probably wind up as an offensive tackle. But he hoped before he arrives on campus he will have added foot speed so he could have a chance to play tight end or defensive end.

Washington and Oregon had also expressed interest in Fullington.
