UGA has major competition for Carver, Columbus LB | Football recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
Carver, Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones has already collected scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois, Miami and Texas.

But it’s unlikely the 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior will commit prior to the summer.

“He’s going to weigh his options after spring practice then he’ll get his options down to ten,” Carver coach Dell McGee said.

Though Alabama and Georgia are projected to have small class of 2009 recruiting classes, McGee has no plans to advise Jones to speed up the process of picking a college.

“It doesn’t put Jarvis into a pinch because it’s a college’s choice if they choose to go ahead and take all of their recruits,” he said. “But I don’t see a school not waiting on him. If they go into another direction, Jarvis will be fine with that.”

Jones, a small forward for Carver’s state playoff basketball team, visited Auburn recently.

Former Carver teammate DeRon Furr recently enrolled at Auburn and will be on the Tigers’ roster this fall. Carver’s Jarmon Fortson signed a letter of intent with Florida State last month.

But McGee doesn’t necessarily believe his former players will give Auburn or FSU the upper hand in the recruitment of Jones.

“I think he’ll make up his own mind based on which school is best suited for Jarvis Jones,” McGee said.

By B Hayes. Jones says he hasn't narrowed things down yet, and is just getting ready for his season. He loved his visit to Texas and is looking forward to his trip to LSU.

UGA among finalists for Carver-Columbus LB Jones | College recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
In the eyes of many, Carver-Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones is the most coveted player in Georgia in the class of 2009.

Earlier this week, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound recruit indicated that he plans to sign a letter of intent in February with Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Texas or Southern Cal.

But the drama surrounding Jones’ recruitment will likely continue over the next five to six months.

Carver coach Dell McGee said earlier today he’d be surprised if his prized linebacker commits in the foreseeable future.

“I think it will be in January when he commits, unless he just gets a conviction over a certain school,” McGee said.

Jones’ most recent visit was to LSU earlier this month.

“He said it was nice,” McGee said. “It was just like every other D1 school: nice campus and the coaching staff was ok.

“He could see himself playing there.”

Jones, who is rated as the fourth-best outside linebacker in the nation and the 39th-overall prospect in the country by Scout.com, may see his stock rise even more this fall.

“Last season was just his first year starting at linebacker,” McGee said. “This year, I think he’ll see things a lot faster and be more comfortable and know what to expect.

“I think you’ll see a big improvement, especially from a leadership standpoint.”

Jones Has Clemson As A Favorite
By Eric Guimaraes

LB Jarvis Jones (6-3 220) of Columbus, GA has listed Clemson in his top seven schools. Jones says the Tigers were one of the first schools to offer him and have stayed in close contact showing him a lot of interest. Billy Napier is his recruiter for Clemson. Jarvis loves to play football. He says, "I'm one of those guys that loves the game of football. I go hard every play and I love to hit people." He still feels he can improve. "I want to be a better student of the game. I want to read offenses better." As a junior, he had 157 tackles, 26 for loss, two interceptions, and three sacks. He also scored two touchdowns on special teams returning a blocked punt and a kick off fumble recovery for scores. His top seven are Clemson, Miami, Florida, Georgia, Texas, LSU, and Auburn. He has visited Clemson and liked what he saw. He felt they were and up and coming program and a good academic school. He liked the facilities but then said, "all big time programs have nice facilities." He has not decided where he will take his official visits and says he will not likely commit until signing day. Jones runs a sub 4.6 40.

Jarvis Jones will make official visit to Southern Cal | College recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
Carver-Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones, considered the state’s No. 1 football prospect by numerous recruiting publications, will take his first official visit to Texas on Oct. 18 and is setting up another one to Southern Cal for November.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Jones is also considering offers from Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Florida and Miami. Jones has denied rumors that he is leaning toward Clemson, saying that all schools are “equal.”

“I like those [seven schools], but I don’t have any favorites out of them,” the tight-lipped Jones said last week. “I’m open to all of them.”

Carver coach Dell McGee said he is proud of the way his prized prospect is dealing with recruiting. “First of all, he’s a great young man. He hasn’t been cocky about all the attention. He is just taking it all in stride, and handling everything in a very mature manner.”

Jones made an unofficial visit to Georgia for the Alabama game. The Bulldogs already have three commitments at linebacker, but have told Jones they would hold a scholarship open for him.
