Oklahoma’s recent dismantling of Texas Tech made an impression on one potential recruit. Arlington (Texas) Oakridge School WR Ross Apo took notice of the way the Sooners moved the ball—especially through the air. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound pass target could fit well into a system like Oklahoma’s—though he’s still a long way from making a final decision, he told Sporting News Today.
“I’m probably a downfield receiver more than a short-yardage receiver,” 2010 recruit Apo told SN Today. “I work very well in one-on-one coverage, and I can go up and get the ball, too. My vertical jump is pretty high, so I can go up and get it. I’m bigger than a lot of DBs, because I’m 6-4. I think I would fit into an offense like OU’s. I like their offense, and I talk to (Oklahoma assistant) Coach (Jay) Norvell a lot about it.”
Apo said Oklahoma offered its scholarship recently, but Brigham Young offered first. There have been rumors that Apo may have already committed to BYU, but he dispelled those rumors when talking to SN Today. He said he also likes in-state Texas and nearby LSU.
“The recruiting actually started after last year, but this year there’s been a lot more,” Apo said. “I’ll probably wait until signing day to see everything a college has to offer. I want to take all my visits—that’s what I’m going to do.”
