Central Catholic defensive end Dan Vaughan had his coming out party in Cincinnati. We knew he was decent, but he we did not expect what we saw at the Herbstreit Challenge. Vaughan was all over the field on offense and defense for the Vikings. He had 82 yards of offense on the day and he scored two touchdowns. On defense, Vaughan was relentless in pursuit and spent most of the day in the Northmont backfield.

After a standout performance at the Herbstreit Challenge Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic fullback/defensive end Dan Vaughan has seen a bevy of new interest including a new pair of offers as Iowa and Pittsburgh stepped forward. Boston College and Kansas State also have begun showing interest. Syracuse was the first to offer Vaughan last fall.
"I really like Pitt because my grandpa and mom went there and my brother is there now," Vaughan said. "But, I'm going to see what happens."

Recruit Vaughan picks Syracuse, prefers Pitt - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Quote:
Central Catholic fullback/defensive end Dan Vaughan made a verbal commitment to Syracuse on Tuesday, but he admitted he would prefer to play at Pitt.
Vaughan, had offers from Syracuse, Pitt and Stanford, but Pitt and Stanford pulled them.
"For now, I had to commit to Syracuse because of the scholarship," Vaughan said. "They are running out of scholarships because they got other recruits. What's happening now is apparently (Pitt) is trying to give me another scholarship. If that were to happen then I would decommit from Syracuse and take Pitt."
Pitt rescinded Vaughan's offer the day after his official visit last weekend. Vaughan said he hopes to know if he'll have another offer from Pitt by Thursday when Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt meets with Central Catholic coach Terry Totten.
"Looking back on it, it was a mistake not committing on my official visit, so I'm just hoping they give me another chance," Vaughan said. "I would take it."

More on Dan Vaughan - Orange Football Blog on syracuse.com
Quote:
Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School football player Dan Vaughan told The Post-Standard tonight that his recruitment is over, done, finished. He is committed to signing with Syracuse and has no intentions of backing out of his decision should Pittsburgh return its scholarship offer to the table.
"When I committed to Syracuse, I was fully committed," Vaughan said. "I'm not changing my decision. I'm done. I'm committed to Syracuse."
Vaughan said he was disappointed at the way his recruiting process ended. He visited his top three schools all within a span of a week. Pittsburgh pressed him to make a decision during his visit. Vaughan did not. He had subsequent visits to Syracuse and Stanford. Pittsburgh told him it was withdrawing its offer after getting the commitment from another tight end. Vaughan said Stanford did not accept his application, which left him with Syracuse.
Vaughan disputed comments attributed to him in The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Wednesday that said he would back out of his commitment to Syracuse if Pittsburgh still offered.
"No," Vaughan said. "When Pitt took away my scholarship, I was disappointed. It was normal disappointment. I said I wished they wouldn't have done that."
Would he reconsider if they called?
"No. Not any more."
Because?
"As opposed to Syracuse, they didn't deal with me in the same way," he said.
Vaughan said he has lost contact with Pittsburgh the last few days. Because that happened, he said it was "better for me to go to Syracuse."
