An article on several East Coast prospects.... According to Mike Farrell, Pitt is the school to beat for Collier, with Syracuse being the dark horse candidate.

Clemson Leads For Collier

By Phil Kornblut
Clemson has moved to the front for RB Averin Collier (5-11 193) of Churchville, NY. "I'm leaning toward Clemson," Collier told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. "I've talked quite a bit with the coaches and I feel really good about them and the style of offense that they run." Collier has narrowed his list to Clemson, Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech. Collier's older brother is a running back at Pittsburgh. Collier accounted for 2200 yards last season rushing for 1542 yards and 22 touchdowns while playing quarterback, receiver and running back. He also played linebacker and defensive back.

Collier keeps his head in game
Star thinks of team, not recruiters

Scott Pitoniak
staff writer

(August 14, 2007) — RIGA — Monday morning, before the first official practice of his senior high school football season, Averin Collier put on his helmet and a pair of blinders.

The Churchville-Chili running back still will pay attention to the scores of letters he receives weekly from major college recruiters, but his focus has shifted from being hunted to doing the hunting as the Saints gun for their first state championship.

Collier's emphasis is now on answering the bell rather than e-mails.

All eyes this year at Churchville-Chili are on Averin Collier, the most sought after player in New York state. The big time college football schools have been hot on Collier's trail. He currently has 17 scholarship offers on the table and has narrowed his choices down to five.

Collier says he'll wait until his high school season is over before making a decision on college. But Clemson, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Rutgers are the main contenders.

Saints roll behind Collier

QB runs for three TDs; C-C defense tough, too

James Johnson
Staff writer

(September 2, 2007) — A large crowd watched the Churchville-Chili Saints flex their muscles on Saturday and mute the weekend's most-hyped local high school football matchup.

Marshall produced the first touchdown. Churchville-Chili scored the rest and won the non-league season opener for last year's Section V Class AA Tournament finalists 31-6 in front of about 1,100 people at Marshall.

"We definitely made a statement," Churchville-Chili senior quarterback/kicker Matt Szczupakowski said. "It tells our team that we're at a very high level.

"We can really do some damage this year."

Averin Collier, the state's top-rated college prospect, ran for 102 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries as Churchville-Chili churned out 261 rushing yards. The Saints, who lost 12-7 to Marshall when the teams met during the 2006 sectional finals, showed that they can kick and tackle, too.

NCAA clearinghouse issues have come up, which have delayed his visits including the previously-scheduled one with Clemson. Favors Pitt slightly over Clemson and GT.

Collier Has Clemson Out Front

By Phil Kornblut
Clemson has been a strong player with RB Averin Collier (5-11 195) of Churchville, NY since the spring, and Collier said Monday night the Tigers lead the pack. "But they could be number one right now, and the last one later," Collier said. "I still want to visit the campus. I want to visit all of my favorites to be able to compare." Collier also likes Pittsburgh, Syracuse, North Carolina and Boston College. Collier said he will make an official visit to Clemson the first or second weekend in December. He has made an unofficial visit to Pittsburgh. Collier said he talks regularly with Clemson assistants Billy Napier and Rob Spence. This season he's rushed for 900 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Averin enjoyed his trip to BC and could see himself playing there. He will likely take visits to Clemson, Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech.

By Phil Kornblut
RB Averin Collier (5-11 195) of Churchville, NY will make an unofficial visit to Rutgers Saturday. He has made an official visit to Boston College and is talking with Clemson about making an official visit there in December. He talked with Clemson recruiter Andre Powell earlier this week. He has scheduled an official visit to Pittsburgh for December 7th. He's not sure about his other official visits. "Pitt and Clemson are still my top two right now," Collier said. He also has offers from Georgia Tech, Maryland, Connecticut, Louisville, Virginia and Syracuse.

Clemson Turns Down Commitment Offer

By Phil Kornblut
Clemson is no longer involved with RB Averin Collier (5-11 195) of Churchville, NY because apparently the Tigers feel they have a chance to land a running back higher on their board right now. Collier had planned to visit Clemson over the weekend but after talking with recruiter Billy Napier a couple of weeks ago, the visit was canceled. "I told him they were my number one choice and I would commit if I enjoyed my visit," Collier said. "He told me to wait and I could not do that because I'm an early enrollee. I can't have my fate depending on so
