Ran into St. John's Coach Joe Patterson at yesterday's All-Met luncheon. Almost didn't recognize him now that he bought a razor and shaved his beard. Anyway, he reports that standout lineman Pete White will use the summer to take unofficial campus visits and holds scholarship offers from: Maryland, Tennessee, Florida, Illinois, Miami, Michigan State, N.C. State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Star Lineman Down to Five, Including Terps - Josh Barr's Recruiting Insider
Quote:
St. John's second-team All-Met lineman Pete White has narrowed his college choices to Maryland, Tennessee, Florida, Miami and, interestingly, Oregon.
How did the Ducks get in the mix?
"I really like their offensive line coach," White said between practices one day last week. "I like their offense."
Oregon offensive line coach Steve Greatwood has some familiarity with the Washington area; he spent the 1997 as an assistant at Maryland.
White said he plans to take some official visits during the season but hopes to reach a decision before the end of the season.

I've been hearing Tennessee leads Maryland.

ESPN - Peter White Rankings, Grade, News, Stats - College Football Recruiting 2009
Quote:
Peter White told ESPN affiliate InsideTheU.com that Miami-FL, Oregon, Florida, Maryland and Tennessee are his current top five.
He said of the Hurricanes, "Me and coach Hill have a real good relationship."
On Oregon, "I have always liked their offense and how they run an exciting offense and keep their offensive linemen up-tempo."
White said of Florida, "I like coach Meyer and the offensive line coach, coach Addazio."
Of in-state Maryland, "I grew up watching them since I was little. They are showing me the most interest. They have been recruiting me the longest."
Finally, White said of Tennessee, "I just like their program and how they develop offensive lineman."
White also gave a general idea of what he's seeking, "Academics and the overall environment are the most important factors to me. I want to be comfortable with everything including how I interact with everything outside of football in college. I want to study secondary education in college and someday become a high school teacher."
