Irish Offer Standout Class-Of-2010 Linebacker

Chris Martin Profile
Chris Martin, from the Oakland, Calif., area, contacted Irish Eyes on Monday afternoon to inform the site he was offered a verbal scholarship by Notre Dame.
"I just got off the phone with Coach Ianello and they offered me," Martin said. "They're going to make it official when I meet Coach Weis on my visit."
"My family back in Indiana called me instantly and were really elated to hear that I'm interested in the Irish."
Martin plans to visit Notre Dame in a couple weeks. His father grew up in Bedford, Ind., and Martin has made six or seven trips back to his Dad's old stomping grounds.
A first-team sophomore all-state selection, Martin had 108 tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions last fall, helping Bishop O’Dowd reach the state playoffs.
Martin has also been offered by USC, UCLA, California, Colorado, Oregon and Stanford.

From the ND site. Martin and his father made a trip to Notre Dame this weekend which he calls "amazing". He loved getting to see the team practice and meeting Coach Weis. Any team who wants him will have to impress his mother as well, who is very into academics.

FVSports - The Elite100: Class of 2010
Quote:
13. Chris Martin
6'5" / 228 pounds / Defensive End / Bishop O'Dowd High School / Oakland, California
Contenders: Colorado, Notre Dame, Stanford, USC
Scouting Report: Probably the best player in NorCal regardless of class. Currently plays linebacker but has the tools that programs look for in a game-changing pass rusher: great frame, very long w/ room to fill out, quick first step, get off blocks quickly, and finishes plays violently. Someone who thrives on making plays happen and makes DCs adjust their game plan. Very smart player who has a good understanding of the field and pursuit angles. Aggressive but doesn't take himself out of gaps. Can drop back into coverage and shut down the passing lanes with his wingspan. Should grow into more of a weakside defensive end as he gets older. Will need to develop his rush techniques and add more lower body strength, as he's susceptible to cut blocks. Extremely versatile, his game will fit both a 4-3 or 3-4 defense.
