DE Chris Bonds (6-4 270) of Richland Northeast was among a large number of junior prospects attending USC's junior day Saturday. "There were like 75-80 kids there and their parents," Bonds said. "It's always fun to meet new player. I talked to the new defensive coordinator (Eli Johnson). Me and coach Lawing spent a lot of time together as we always do. We also went up to coach Spurrier's office." Bonds said he will go to Georgia February 16th and Virginia February 24th. An early list of favorites for him is USC, Clemson, Southern Cal, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Miami and Notre Dame. Bonds said he plans to take all of his official visits and won't make a decision until after his senior season.

Bonds Pays USC Another Visit

By Phil Kornblut
Richland Northeast DE Chris Bonds (6-4 270) made an unofficial visit to USC Monday along with several members of his family. "I went up to Carolina to look at the new academic side and I talked to coach (Raymond) Harrison (Director of Academics)," Bonds said Tuesday afternoon. "He showed me pictures of the new academic facility. I told him I wanted to major in some type of engineering. I took a campus tour. I've lived hiim a long time but I didn't know what went on. Coach (David) Reaves took us around." Bonds attended USC's junior day earlier in the month. This past Saturday he was at Georgia and this Sunday he will visit Virginia. He also has offers from Clemson, Miami, Auburn, Tennessee, Michigan, Florida, Notre Dame, Illinois, Maryland, Alabama, LSU, Colorado and Louisville. Southern Cal also is showing strong interest with a lot of mail. Bonds said right now two schools stand out the most with him. "If Southern Cal offers me, it's between them and South Carolina," Bonds said. "I'm not really a big Clemson fan. Clemson is not much of a factor simply because I don't know much about clemson and I don't know anybody that went to Clemson. My stepdad is a big Carolina fan. Georgia's program is awesome. A lot of schools I'm still looking into, like Georgia Tech, technical schools with an engineering major and good football. Also Miami, schools that put linemen in the NFL all the time. And most SEC schools because the SEC is the conference." Bonds continues to rehab his left knee in which he tore the ACL late last season. He is expected to make a full recovery.

DE Chris Bonds (6-4 270) of Richland Northeast says he probably will take his five official visits this fall to Michigan, Southern Cal, Notre Dame, Alabama and Miami. "I've already visited South Carolina's campus and I'm using the official visits to go to places I normally wouldn't visit," Bonds said. Bonds is in California this week for spring break and has made two trips to see Southern Cal. "It was nice," Bonds said. "You would never know that this nice, small, but secluded campus was here in a city of 18 million, or whatever. It was nice, the weather was perfect." Bonds had a chance to talk with Trojans head coach Pete Carroll on his first visit. "Everyone seemed so excited I was there, they whisked me way so I could tour the campus," he said. "He did sit down and talked to my mom and everybody." Besides his visits to USC, Bonds also has visited Alabama and Virginia.

One of the most heavily recruited players in the state in terms of offers, Bonds recently added Florida State, Virginia Tech Purdue and Northwestern to his list. Frye said USC, Michigan, Florida State and Notre Dame have been by the school this spring. Bonds has visited USC, Southern Cal, Alabama and Virginia and will try to visit Tennessee, Michigan, Notre Dame and Miami. Frye believes a few schools have moved to the forefront. "If you had to name maybe seven, they would be USC, Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Southern Cal, Miami and Florida State," Frye said. "He's going to make a real thorough assesment. He's concerned about academics. He wants to go to a school with a good engineering program. If he had to redshirt, he will redshirt. He wants a football environment where he feels comfortable with the players and the coaches." Bonds has been a starter since his freshman season but his past two seasons were marred by injuries. He missed most of his sophomore season with a severe ankle sprain, and his junior season was cut short late in the year by a torn ACL.
