From the NC State site...talks about what he likes about the Wolf Pack and says he favors NC State and WVU. Oklahoma, Tennessee and Clemson have recently offered and he will take as much time as possible to make a decision.

"Recruiting is going great," Askew stated. "I just picked up two more offers from Illinois and South Carolina. Now I have them from Virginia Tech, NC State, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Maryland, Clemson, Tennessee, Illinois, and South Carolina."

He's attended Junior Day at Maryland and was a visitor for West Virginia's Sring Game.

"I liked Maryland's facilities," said Askew. "The coaches were great and the players were excellent. We talked to them about how the school is and what it was like playing there.

"West Virginia was awesome. The fans were crazy... they love football down there. It was a nice place. I really thought it was going to be in the middle of nowhere but it was nice to be there in the mountains."

Askew secured his first offer last fall from the NC State Wolfpack. The Wolfpack has consistently been mentioned among his leaders, but it appears they could be slipping due to state-specific academic requirements needed to enroll at NC State.

"NC State was the first school to offer me a scholarship," he stated. "My head coach told me about it last year and it shocked me. It was really big, and they've always been one of my to schools.

Hesitant to name a leader, or even a top five, Askew has a couple of camps in mind and is looking to make a decision late in the process.

"I'll probably try and camp at Clemson, Tennessee, and Maryland," he said. "Those are the ones I want to camp at and I'm going to get out and see some more colleges.

"I'm wide open. I don't even want to say a top five right now because I like everybody. I'm going to try and narrow it down later on... probably after the summer."
The article also breaks down his junior film.

'I definitely want to get out of Virginia,' LB says -- dailypress.com

Quote:
After logging a combined total of 228 tackles in his sophomore and junior high school seasons and earning all-state honors both years, linebacker Jerod Askew shouldn't have much left to prove.

That's not the way the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech saw it. From the perspectives of both of those coaching staffs, there must've been something missing.

Askew, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound recruit from Oscar Smith High in Chesapeake, isn't losing much sleep over it, and he really shouldn't with the list of powerhouses that do have an interest in him.

UVa hasn't offered a scholarship to Askew, who is considered by most recruiting analysts to be the best linebacker in the state and one of the top 15 linebackers in the nation. Tech offered Askew, but the offer didn't come until early this year.
Quote:
Askew's response to the late — or lack of — attention from Tech and UVa? No worries. He'll go where he's wanted.

"I kind of moved on from (Tech and UVa) when I broke my offers down to five schools," said Askew, who had 14 sacks last season.

He's down to West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina and Maryland.

Askew already has a visit to West Virginia scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 26. He plans to visit the other four finalists before making a decision in late December or early January.

In narrowing his list down to five, Askew eliminated offers from several other elite schools. Clemson, Michigan and Oklahoma all offered him.
Quote:
Askew hasn't qualified, but he's close. His grade-point average is allegedly very solid, and he said he came just a few points away from getting a qualifying score in his first attempt at the SAT.

LB Jerod Askew (6-0 230) of Chesapeake, VA was scheduled to make an official visit to USC for the Wofford game with teammate WR Tim Smith, but the Gamecocks canceled both visits. But Askew still plans to come down to the Palmetto State. He said he will set an official visit with Clemson, and he has the Tigers in his final five along with Alabama, Tennessee, West Virginia and Maryland. "I want to see all of them and compare them," Askew said. "Clemson has a heck of a defense. Their defense is aggresssive and that's what I'm all about, aggressive defense." Askew took an official visit to West Virginia last weekend. He is scheduled to visit Tennessee this weekend and Maryland October 18th.

Linebacker Askew picks Vols : Football Recruiting : GoVolsXtra.com

Quote:
Jerod Askew, regarded as one of the nation’s top linebackers, has committed to Tennessee.

Askew, a 6-foot, 230-pounder from Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va., chose the Vols after whittling his final list to Tennessee, West Virginia, Alabama, Maryland and South Carolina.

"He visited Tennessee last week and he just said 'Coach, I’m done. Tennessee is where I want to go,' '' Oscar Smith coach Richard Morgan told the Virginian-Pilot.

Askew last season had 120 tackles – 24 for loss – and 14 sacks.

“He’s a rare combination of size and speed and athletic ability that you don’t see in high school football much,” Morgan told the newspaper. “They’re getting a terrific linebacker and a great kid.”
