Neshaminy TE Carrezola expected to commit to Rutgers | Philadelphia Inquirer | 05/19/2008
Quote:
Neshaminy junior tight end Paul Carrezola is expected to announce at a news conference tomorrow that he is committing to attend Rutgers, according to sources.
Carrezola, a 6-foot-3, 252-pounder, will make the announcment at 2:30 p.m. at Neshaminy. He chose Rutgers over fellow finalists Pittsburgh, North Carolina State and Iowa.
Last season, while averaging about 18 yards per catch, Carrezola was a second-team all-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection by The Inquirer. According to Neshaminy coach Mark Schmidt, he has 16 scholarship offers.
"He's a marvelous kid," Schmidt said. "Every day, he works to get better. After weightlifting, he goes out and catches 50 to 100 balls."
If Carrezola commits to Rutgers, as expected, he will become the second high-level area recruit to decide on playing for coach Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights. Last month, Cardinal O'Hara quarterback Tom Savage, ranked among the top 25 players in the Class of 2009 by Rivals.com, orally committed to the program.
Among tight ends in the Class of 2009, Carrezola is ranked No. 16 by Scout.com. "He's very good at catching the ball," Schmidt said. "His basketball background helps make him a great receiver."
Like Savage, Carrezola cannot sign a binding national letter of intent until February, 2009.
