Quote:
Ivan McCartney frequently draws comparisons to his playmaking cousin, Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Ocho Cinco, formerly known to most NFL fans at Chad Johnson.
McCartney is a junior wide receiver from Miramar (Fla.) who has already been listed as one of the top 250 prospects in the class of 2010. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound pass target already reports written scholarship offers from Rutgers, Ole Miss, West Virginia, Florida International and even Pac-10 power Oregon.
He recounts the first time he got a scholarship offer, a verbal one from Ole Miss in the spring of his sophomore year.
"I remember it like yesterday," McCartney told Sporting News Today. "I had a track meet that day and I went to go see the head football coach, and as soon as I was getting ready to leave, he told me that Ole Miss had just offered me a full scholarship. I was so happy that I went out and did one of my best long jumps in the meet."
McCartney told SN Today he had no idea colleges even knew who he was, because he hadn't made any highlight tapes and hadn't gone to any camps yet. But as any recruiting services will tell a kid, if you're good enough, colleges will find a way to find you.
"I think college coaches look at the way I play the game, the mentality that I bring every game," McCartney told SN Today. "They like how I perform in the classroom and in practice. I would say my determination is one thing that will get me to the next level ... Even if it's me playing another position they need me to play, I'll do it."
McCartney went on to say that fans would love him on campus, because he has a good sense of humor to go along with his love for the game of football. He said he will likely make his final decision known on signing day of next year, that he will focus on his senior season before narrowing anything down.

By M Bakas. Ivan has offers from Oregon and Ole Miss and is getting interest from many others. His top five is Oregon, Florida, South Florida, Michigan and Ohio State. He grew up a Miami fan, but hasn't been hearing from them yet.

By B Greene. McCarthy has been in recent contact with Ohio State, and says that Ohio State has always been one of his favorites. He likes the fact that the Buckeyes have a strong business management program as well as the fact that they put a lot of WR's into the NFL. Oregon (offer), West Virginia (offer), South Florida, Florida and Ohio State make up his early top five.

From the Marshall site...Marshall has verbally offered, joining the likes of Boston College, Ole Miss, West Virginia and Oregon...thinks OSU and USC are close to offering and is also hearing a lot from Miami and Florida. Wide open but does favor Southern Cal, Oregon, Florida, Ohio State and Miami.
