Tom Salvato isn't sure how or why the internet recruiting services have missed Jamal Wilson, but the head coach at South Side High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. knows that college coaches haven't. Wilson, a 6-6, 310-pound offensive tackle with offers from Maryland, Penn State, Syracuse, Connecticut and Boston College, gave Rutgers a verbal commitment for 2009 after visiting the school on Tuesday.

"He had a lot of offers," said Salvato, who has been the head coach at South Side for 14 years. "I'm not sure why he's off the radar with the internet guys. Maybe because he didn't go to the combine as a sophomore last year. Rutgers is getting a player with a lot of upside who moves well and can play."

Salvato said the relationship that Wilson forged with head coach Greg Schiano and offensive line coach Kyle Flood tipped the decision in Rutgers' favor.
"I've known Kyle Flood a long time," he said. "Jamal felt comfortable with him and coach Schiano. It's a good fit. I don't care that he isn't rated on the internet by the recruiting services. He's a top player."

Because he is a junior, Wilson can't make his commitment official until national letter of intent signing day in February.

edit: my take - with the info coming out, looks like the internet really missed the boat on this guy. Big time get.
