Any poll that is looking for the greatest and doesn't start and end with Jim Brown is clearly missing the point.

Can't help but notice how skewed it is to player's from the last half of the century which convienently takes out Brown and Red Grange.

Both runners established such reputations that they continue to be mentioned in "all everything" teams. So good were they that their names still come up long after the names of others who played in their era and succeeding eras have been forgotten, including half of the names on this list.

Um, Red Grange is on the list....

As far as Jim Brown is concerned, his college numbers just don't justify his inclusion as a running back: 361 carries, 2,091 yards (5.8 average), 24 touchdowns. However, he also had 8 career interceptions and served as Syracuse's place kicker, so he would certainly be included on a poll of "multi-purpose players" (as would Hopalong Cassady, Doak Walker, and several other players from the 40's and 50's).

Of course, Brown went on to become the greatest pro running back of all time, but we are strictly dealing with college here.
