The Purdue football team picked up the 20th member in its 2009 recruiting class when running back/athlete Antavian Edison announced his intention to sign with the Boilermakers.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Edison told the Fort Myers News-Press he was looking at Florida Atlantic and UAB, but something about Purdue reminded him of home. Edison attends Dunbar High School, which finished 10-2 this season.
"I just felt like their whole staff -- the coaches, the teachers, everyone -- they're all behind student athletics. They were all very helpful," Edison said.
"It's the same type of love here at Dunbar."
Edison rushed for 488 yards, averaging 9.2 yards per carry and scored five touchdowns. He also caught 35 passes for 563 yards and five TDs.
Edison is the 13th player from the state of Florida to give coach Danny Hope a verbal commitment. Signing day is Feb. 4.
