Crawford runs reverse, leaves Nitro for return to Huntington

Crawford, named by West Virginia University insiders as the Mountaineers' top in-state recruiting target among rising seniors, had transferred to Nitro from Huntington High earlier this summer. Crawford re-enrolled at Huntington Wednesday afternoon, Highlanders Coach Zack Wilson said.

Sowards was not notified of Crawford's move before the Wildcats practiced Wednesday evening. Crawford was at the same time practicing with the Highlanders

Crawford, also high on Marshall's recruiting wish list, had his eligibility at Nitro questioned thanks to several statements made by his father, Craig Crawford, in media coverage of the quarterback's initial transfer.

"It basically comes down to the coaching at Huntington High, because C.J. isn't learning anything and he isn't getting the respect he deserves," Craig Crawford said in early June.

"In my honest opinion I don't think Zach (Wilson) should be head football Coach at Huntington High."

Wilson did not respond to those comments himself on Wednesday night, instead saying that he welcomed the younger Crawford back to the team.

"We're just going to focus on coaching the team, not worry about the past and move forward from here," Wilson said.
